From ectopics and SVTs to paroxysmal A fib

Nearly 40 years of ectopics and am now 75. Last couple of years started getting SVTs and probably AFib from then but only recently diagnosed after a 14 day monitor. I had been on Bisoprolol which wasn't helping much so have been switched to verapamil. 1st tablet today and it doesn't seem to be helping as I'm aware of A fib episodes plus have dark urine and a headache. Any suggestions? Thanks

Souns like you ay be dehydrated. It is very iportant to staigger y well hydrated if you have afib. For most people poor hydration can trigger an episode/exacerbatethe condition.

Thanks for your response. I drink a lot of decaffeinated tea and did make sure I had about a pint of water in the afternoon too but maybe it wasn't enough. Not a problem I've had before though which is why I thought it might be the verapamil.

hi there, I can’t help you with your recent difficulties, but I was on Bisoprolol on pill in the pocket. When I went into SVT I took one and my heart rate went straight up to 250. Rang for help and was taken into resus when I got there. I had several severe SVTs after that and I then had an ablation. Since then had no problems. It may be worth while discussing this with your cardiologist. Hope all goes well for you.

Thanks for that. Cardiologist me to try medication first which I think is the usual approach.

Hi,

Headaches and dark urine can both be caused by not drinking enough water, but if you are worried you should ring your GP.

I'm not medically trained and only speak from experience.

Tea can be dehydrating, and I am on Bisoprolol and find I get very thirsty.

I drink decaf tea and my cardiologist said I should limit myself to a maximum of four cups a day because there's still some caffeine in decaf - I thought decaf meant caffeine free! - so I have my four cups spread through the day and drink hot water with a slice of lemon maybe three or four times in between.

And I drink water. I keep a glass in the bathroom cabinet and have a drink of water each time I use the toilet.

Once I got into the habit it's something I do automatically like washing my hands, so it's not a bother and I'm sure it helps.

That sounds like a good idea. I drink decaffeinated too and have only had this problem on taking verapamil for the first time yesterday. Thanks for the idea.
