Missed Bisoprolol

I take 5 mgs Bisoprolol morning and evening. Ihad to stay an extra day away from home yesterday, but had packed spare Biso and Warfarin so was fine. Now however, it seems I must stay put again today because of the weather, and this means I will miss tomorrow morning’s Biso. Do you think I shoukd just miss it and not worry, or should I take this morning’s late ( already a bit later than usual ), then this evening’s later too, then perhaps tomorrow evening’s a bit early once I get home ? There is so much talk about reducing Biso very gradually so I am a bit wary of just leaving out the dose. However, because I take a split dose, missing tomorrow mornings dose would only really be missing half a day’s dose wouldn’t it. I’d appreciate your opinions on this.

Hiya,

In the paper in the packet there should be a brief section which should cover this scenario. 'ave a look at it and see.

TBH, personally I would miss this mornings dose and take the night time dose on time - your regular time. Then when you are able return to your regular dose times when you get home. Hope I haven't misread your post.

Good luck, stay safe on the roads wherever you are 😊

"Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule."

Hello there, I’ve been on this for many years & many different doses. It seems to affect many people so differently re dose/tolerance (sorry this is all about bisoprolol-no idea re warfarin

I’m not saying do these as I do not know your case & im not in a position to advise medically - just basing on my own experiences & what I’ve done -please assess your own situation accordingly

Depending where you are having to stay & how long for there are possibly a couple of options.

You could either Call 111 they may be able to get you seen locally as a temporary patient & get a prescription to tide you over

Does your tablet have a score line in order to half one easily (you don’t want it just crumbling) then you’d have a couple of albeit lower doses? They should be taken same usual time but I have occasionally forgotten a dose or taken late with little effect on me but as said others are less tolerant to small changes.

See if there is a local walk in centre with GP on duty or some GPs do Saturdays - temp pt prescription. Do you have your prescription (online access) for the GO or I don’t know if a pharmacist could help if you have photo ID .

Don’t know if any of this helps but hope so.

Thanks for all that. As I will only be missing one tablet, I don’t feel it warrants getting a special prescription, so I might cut tonight’s in two , as you suggest, so I can have the other half in the morning. Why didn’t I think of that ! 😄

Just be aware if there isn’t a scoring line down the centre it may crumble & wouldn’t be an accurate dose. Hope all goes well

For the first time I had to resort to a pill splitter to half my betablocker. I'd never used it before but my darling wife advised me to wash it out first. Opened it up and gave it a rub inside with water and fingers. Who would have thought there was a razor blade hidden inside! So here I am nursing a sore thumb with a nice slit down the end. Think I'll survive, blood thinners or not, but a word of warning to those innocents, like me, who don't always see danger ahead!

Sorry I’m reading this too late to be helpful on this, but just to add (for another time?!) that this is what I would do. (ie Ease myself through the extra time with a regular but reduced dose, rather than taking the full amount then having a gap with none.) I’m sure you will be fine either way for such a small amount of time, as the half life will keep some in your system, but this way is less shock to the heart which is always a good thing :) Xx

Thank you for that. It’s what I did do in the end 😊

It's always a worry when you have missed one , it makes me anxious . If you are concerned ring a Chemist or 111 and ask their advice .
