Has anyone ever tried the Heimlich maneuver to end an episode?

Only if I was choking……do you really mean that or do you mean valsalva manoeuvre? I’ve used valsalva manoeuvres to stop an AF episode which has sometimes worked, sometimes not.
I’ve never heard of that being used to stop an episode. I can only imagine it would have the same effect as a pericardial ‘thump’ for a witnessed arrest, but even that’s not used anymore, as the thrust up the diaphragm would probably move the heart. Do u have any links on it. Take care 🦊x
No! Heimlich can cause serious internal problems, only to be used in emergencies!
I’ve done several 1st Aid courses, with my job and have been taught the Abdominal Thrust, , as the Heimlich Manoeuvre is now called. It is used if someone is choking and I actually had to use it in a restaurant once, when someone choked on some food and his partner yelled for help and as no-one moved, I went over and did the abdominal thrust on him and dislodged the offending food. You now have to seek medical advice if an abdominal thrust is applied, as it can damage ribs. I certainly wouldn’t advise it for stopping AFib.
I think you got it wrong. When I want to end an episode of AF I quickly grab a beer and down it in one gulp.
It is called the Heineken Manoeuvre.
