Hi and thanks for letting me join. I'm 58 and suffer from AF. I have had episodes since November 2022. I normally have an episode roughly every 4 or 5 weeks until recently where I've had it every day for 6 days now but not continuous. I take my two tablets (flecainoid )at the onset and it usually gets it back under control only for it to start up again some hours later. I'm currently waiting for an ablation procedure.

As you have found, AF tends to be a progressive condition so obviously your drug regime is not now able to control it adequately. If you are yet to receive a date for your ablation why not contact your EP and see if they wish to change you to a daily dose of flecainide to better control it.

Thanks Bob. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow and hopefully get my medication sorted. At this point with things appearing to get worse I'm inot sure whether I should be on blood thinners now ?

Anticoagulant requirement is based on CHADS2Vasc2 score so it is possible you don't need them quite yet . You best ask you doctor to work it out for you when you see them tomorrow.

Welcome to the forum Trout7, you'll find us a friendly bunch of people willing to give support when we can.

I've had AF for 19 years and it started off with very gradual attacks of AF, then went to every 4-6 weeks - I always knew that if I'd had an attack I wouldn't get another for at least a month. Goodness knows why that was. My AF would hit hard and I spent many episodes admitted to a ward. Now after 3 ablations and many cardioversions I am in constant AF with a heart rate between 60-90bpm. I can live a fairly normal life.

As mentioned, daily flecainide may be better for your situation now then taking it as needed (PIP). Hopefully you will get it sorted so you can stay in normal rhythm as much as possible prior to your ablation.

Hope you got on well at the Dr's. I took flecanide as a pill in pocket until AF took over too often. Maintenance dose controlled well but eventually that too dwindled. Ablation has made a great difference, hardly any af now, although still on flecanide at least it works now 👍 fingers crossed.Best wishes ❤️

hi Trout 7

I to have AFib paroxysmal and really struggled with the anxiety that comes with it !

I did get less attacks after loosing 3 stone but still need to loose more !

Seen another doctor today who suggested Flecanide 2x a day instead of pill in the pocket

So I'm going to try it that's all we can do is try the meds and see how e get on .

It doesn't help reading all the side affects tho !

Good luck life goes on x

Thank you Dionnew65. I kind of lost the anxiety struggle but after todays episode that brought it all back. Ive not looked at any side effects and i am probably better keeping it that way. Are you 2 x 50mg a day of Flec ?
