Private treatment in The South Wet

My first post here. I’ve had PAF since 2021 with only the occasional episode. However since May I’ve been in AF on eight occasions lasting 2-4 hour. I’m due to have my annual check up in November and have asked to be seen earlier but with no joy. I’ve therefore decided to go private to see an EP consultant. Have any of you had any experience of The Penisular Heart clinic in Plymouth and Dr G. Haywood?

Put yourself on the depts. cancellation list .Someone drops out and you fill in at short notice....sometimes a day or twos notice or maybe even a few hours. I do this often and people here will tell you the same.I have found it works about 50% of the time.

If memory serves Exeter has a good service but personally I would travel further with a good recommendation.

As I agree and did after much research . ( first consultation private to save time yo NHS list) Had PFA at Bournmouth hospital yesterday under Dr Bala, a very approachable person who is a leading Doctor in the PFA field.

I would recommend either Matthew Lovell ot Stephen Pod at Exeter Nuffield. I have been treated by both and they are excellent. Both came from London initially. Matthew worked at Barts with Prof Matheu involved with trials in stem cells to help cardiology conditions.

Hi. I think Guy Haywood and team at Derriford are great so far. His team always call me back to answer questions. I saw him for a consultation privately first then taken on through NHS. Having my first ablation with him on 2nd Dec.

Hi and welcome. Your experience is very similar to mine this last year or so and I also paid privately in fear that things were in a bad way. I doubt in the end it was necessary as it turned out that my AF was simply doing what AF does and worsens as we get older.

Still, one good result was the I had some amazing tests and they showed that apart from needing a full rewire the other aspects of my heart were all okay! :-)
