New dosage

It’s a few days since I’ve reduced my first Flecainide to 50mg keeping the evening one at 100mg and my heart is behaving well. Hope it continues to do so.

Why have you reduced your dosage, or have you been advised to do so? Hope it goes ok for you and wishing you well.

I did it because when I forgot to take the first dose of the day and my heart was fine, I put it to a doc at my surgery that perhaps I could try reducing my dose and he agreed to let me try. I’m not keen on the side effects - it seems to add to my fatigue and problems with my digestion that I never had before ( they are listed as “rare side effects”). It seems to be going well so far and feel the evening dose is more important as I didn’t like my sleep disturbed by episodes. Of course, if things fail to continue as well as they have been the last few days, I’ll return to taking the previous dose.

Oh l see V. Hope it all goes well for you. Side effects can be horrible with some drugs. It’s worth a try if you are having problems. Xxx

Thanks, it’s encouraging to find that Tracy “liked” my post too, though it might have been because she was pleased I’d finally realised how I could post things as I’d only replied to others since I joined!

I'm sure it isn't that! I found that I could take lower dose in the evening when I was on Flecainide. The dosage is only a guide and I think it's up to individuals to find their sweet spot re management. Provided of course that highest dose is never exceeded. Fingers crossed it works well for you!

Good initiative! Personally if I get the courage to do the same, I would probably use a pill cutter and do 75gm am & pm because it is less erratic for the heart.

I would also do the first step down for around 6 months before considering any further reduction, as I have been on 200mgs for 11 years.

As the pills are so small I don’t think my pill cutter could manage splitting them in half and the 50mg and 100 mg seem to be around the same size which is why I always check which strip I have very carefully!

I too had my dosage reduced, after stopping it entirely did now work. After two months of not taking it, I had an episode that PIP did not stop. It did resolve on its own however. The my GP ( not my Cardiologist ) suggested I start taking it again, but at the lowest dosage. So far so good, it had been over a year now.

So are you taking 50mg twice daily then? When I was on that several years ago I still had breakthrough episodes so though they could be stopped in a few hours with 100mg, I was happy to take 100mg twice daily to stop episodes (except from the one that came around the time I must have been infected with covid with no other symptoms but a positive test result!) As I didn’t have a breakthrough episode when I forgot the first pill of the day, it was my idea to try the lower dose first ( and a doc at the surgery agreed and it’s been going fine so far. Off course, I’ll return to 2x 100 mg if this new regime doesn’t work. I just wanted to get rid of or reduce the “rare side effects”!!
