Apixaban Dosage

12 Replies

Hi, I've just been put on Apixaban by my EP. The one thing I forgot to ask was about the dosage/strength because I thought, for some reason, it was all the same.

Mine are 5mg and I take them twice a day.

Not asking for advice, just asking if that is the same as you? I'm Mr Average build and height.

Thank you

Koll 🎄

As far as I know there is only one dose Koll. Maybe a smaller rare dose for people with kidney problems or is that another NOAC.

Hi Koll,

Happy Xmas by the way. I believe like Bob, normal dosage is 5mg twice a day and 2.5mg twice a day for people with kidney problems. Also I remember if you are below

a certain weight you are put on a 2.5mg dose (just under 10 stone I believe?)

Best Wishes

Barry

Thanks guys, just checking no silly mistakes.

Happy XMas

There are two doses of Apixaban - 5mg and 2.5mg. Patients are prescribed the lower dose if they meet two of the three criteria below:

Age >= 80

Weight <= 60Kg

Impaired renal function

Best wishes on starting it.

None apply to me, thanks Finvola.

Ah ha, so it does, thanks. Still nice to have confirmation from others though.

There is a 2.5 dose taken twice a day this dose you have to meet two requirements your weight has to be the 145 lbs. plus there is an age requirement as well I believe you have to be between 65 to 75lbs. Be sure to talk to your dr. about the proper weight. I am 82 and in the 140lb range.
