Apologies if this has been asked before but I am on the waiting list for an ablation and this appears to be driving up the cost of my travel insurance. Some providers are even saying no to a quote.
We have been quoted £396 from Saga for a week in Spain in November. I don't want to come off the waiting list and was looking to see if anyone has been in the same situation and got a reasonable quote.
Thank You

As said already, most companies will not cover any condition where you are still undergoing tests or waiting for procedures. They are usually happy to cover you for accidents etc but exclude that condition.
I think it might be more difficult as a new customer but my experience with LV on a yearly policy that I had already declared PAF controlled with medication. They did not need to update anything for an existing condition until renewal, I changed my declaration from medication to ablation and answered a few further questions and my renewal quote increased by an extra £12 to £148 for a joint policy with my wife for Europe.
This might not help your current predicament but maybe worth considering a yearly policy in future. My ablation wasn’t planned when I originally took out the policy.
Yes I got travel insurance whilst waiting for a procedure but if they take you on they will always load the quotation. Having said that I have found companies cheaper than Saga. Try travelinsurance4medical or World First - but ring them up rather than accept quote on the internet.
Travel4medical conditions covered me. I paid for a year and it was under £400. Much cheaper than the previous provider who cancelled my policy once I was on the waiting list
I'm afraid that no travel insurance that I've taken out with PAF and whilst awaiting a procedure was ever what I call 'reasonable'. They'll load your premium but if I want to travel, I have to pay it, although I have a certain amount of comfort knowing that I'm covered. Even with the free insurance offered by some banks, you still have to declare your conditions and they'll charge you for it. Mine's with Staysure. I agree though, that does sound a bit steep just for one week in Europe. Good luck with your quest.
I got cover with Total Travel Protection when I was on a waiting list for an ablation last year. They charged an additional premium of £95 for the waiting list cover, on top of the normal premium covering all my preexisting conditions.
Not an easy one we’re just about to renew our yearly plan. We used Freedom Insurance last couple of years and found them good (although thankfully never had to claim!). You will have to call them as with a planned appointment the online system doesn’t like it. Best of luck
Don’t forget that you can be covered by a GHIC in Spain. Won’t cover repatriation or the other risks covered by travel insurance, but will cover medical treatment associated with AF. That said, you’d be reliant on state hospitals rather than private care if anything untoward occurred.
