I'm on 100 mg Tambocor daily since 2 weeks for paroxysmal AF. Now attemting to restart my calisthenics and gym workouts with this medicine but feel unusually soar and stiff after exerciseAny experiences on this? Is flecainide screwing up with anabolic processes, or something else that makes it harder to keep muscles in shape?

Hi, I have been diagnosed with PAF for 5 years and treated with Flecainide; currently down to 50mg twice a day.

My PAF is very stable and I can maintain a high exercise tolerance, regularly running, climbing, cycling and strength training. I cannot say I’ve experienced any additional soreness or stiffness other than the usual post exercise irritations, since starting Flecainide. I have started more stretching in the last 12 months but that is more to do with counteracting the march of time rather than anything else.

My journey with PAF started with a heart attack and post MI I did lose weight and muscle mass but I can’t attribute it to anything specific. On top of the anti arrhythmics, I also take Clopidogrel, Ramipril and Atorvastatin. Some mass has been regained but I don’t dwell on it.

One of the thing you must learn now you have AF is that life changes and you need to listen to your body. Life goes on but you will never be the same.

I don't think that's a common issue, nor was it with me. It might be possible that your soreness is due to the two week layoff?

I have been on Flecainide for over 10 years and no problems. I am retired but very active, workouts and hill walking, however I do get some stiffness if I have been inactive for some time. More likely ageing process than the Flecainide.
