I had a successful ablation over 4 years ago but after several virus infections and a chest infection I have been experiencing missed beats and a more variable heart rate with a higher resting heart rate, also short spells of bigemini. Would this be due to the body fighting infections or a sign of hassle to come and leading to af again?

Missed beats
Probably the inflamation but do try the slow deep breathing we promote. Use diaphragm not shoulders and slow to six or less breaths per minute fr at least five minutes.
Yes Bob's advice is sound and works for me. Sometimes its a bunch of ectopics as well and the more we feel them the more stressed we get and HR rises with it. Find a distraction and hopefully will help. One time i got a pot of paint and started painting my picket fence.. by the time i reached the gate in the middle i was back to normal!
My ablation was four years ago, and my palpitations this year are far worse that ever and have brought several extra AF episodes in their wake. I have had covid in mind but I suspect otherwise. The specialist I saw recently is awaiting results from a Holter, but suggested it was quite usual for this to happen.

I get runs of bigeminy and trigeminy from time to time, and then a day or two later I go down with a cold or infection.I just use it as an early warning system.
