Update on my 128 beats per minute

A few months ago, I posted about my situation - 63 years old; post stroke 3 years; history of heart issues in family (I had coarctation of aorta, operated on in 1969), daughter has hypoplastic left heart (only one side of heart works); diagnosd with atrial fibrillation/flutter 2 years ago; couple of incidents in past where heart has started racing (once 150 bpm), all tackled with meds. 10 weeks ago, heart rate went up to 128bpm and stayed there, accompanied by severe episodes of light headedness to point of nearly passing out.

Saw Consultant Mr Clift at Birmingham last week. Summary: call it atrial flutter; prescribed loader dose of digoxin to bring heart rate down quickly (still in transit, but sits around 70s at moment - hooray); onto Mr Marshall waiting list for ablation , which to quote "has pretty much a 100% success rate for your situation" - double hooray!; do walking as normal, no driving til after ablation.

Thanks for all your contributions. I read everybodies' posts with great interest.

Happy days!

Bryan

Yes flutter ablation being in right atrium is much easier and faster that fibrillation. Good luck.

Glad you have got onto the ablation waiting list, do you know how long you may have to wait? Good that digoxin has worked to bring down your rate, it hasn't done anything for mine unless of course without it I would be running at an even higher rate 😉, currently at 120ish. I'm only 5½ weeks into my alternating aflutter/afib journey, still awaiting an appt with consultant. I was fine after my (PAF) ablation in Oct 2018 until hit with this episode which is now continual! It's nice to know you have your ablation on the horizon 😀.

He said it would be weeks, but its not his list. Best of luck, Cat

That's encouraging that it's weeks not months or even longer! Here's hoping for sooner rather than later. Look after yourself Bryan & take care.

Hi KM. Did you reduce your medication after ablation? Hoping to get off a few tablets

Good luck with the ablation, I had one done by Mr Marshall 2020 and was successful for about 8 mths and no meds for that time. When in AF my pulse can hit 200, but 5mg bisoprolol brings it down to 60, so I've always been give that by the docs.

Thank you 2Learn. Blimey, I m on 12.5 mg Bisopropol per day, it didn't have such a dramatic effect on me. Hence the Digoxin.
