Bisoprolol will be for rate control (stop heart rate skyrocketing when in AF). Flecainide is for rhythm control so presumably reducing that is resulting in the increased palpitations.

My Flecainide has a pharmacist's label advising "Do not stop abruptly without medical advice". However, I'm on 150mg twice a day - almost max dose. I presume you've specifically discussed changes in Flecainide with your AF nurse. I trialled reducing to 100mg and had increased palpitations. I'm a little wiser now about triggers etc so plan to trial again - having previously cleared doing so with my cardiologist.

I have been on Flecainide 200mgs/day only for 11 years. If I was ever brave enough to reduce I would do it very slowly using a pill cutter over 12 months min particularly the first 100mgs.

Flecinide as always worked , along with bisop , just can’t tolerate side effects , but not sure if it is this

are you able to switch Bisoprolol to night time. Hopefully any side effects will occur when you are asleep. I did this years ago and have never looked back. I was on 5 mg Bisoprolol. Maybe I was lucky 😱 Maybe discuss this with your GP or Pharmacist.

Hi. Have you had recent thyroid results that show you are either over or under medicated? I get palpitations for both. I'm on bisoporol 6.25mg a day and find that it does help my AF, apart from causing hair loss. Do you take the same brand of thyroid meds as I've often seen people react to the fillers in different brands. I take thyroid s so can't comment on which synthetic brand is good or bad for me. Hope you find an answer soon.

I had terrible trouble reducing and coming of Bisoprolol , it caused all kinds of palpitations which took a long time to settle down . Many others have had the same problem. Many others have no problem. Am not saying it’s what is happening to you, just flagging it up as a possibility

If you think it is that i would ask for levels to be checked. Ive never had a problem with thyroxine except nobody told me i had to take it an hour before food or caffeine until id been on it for about ten years!!!

Same as me , I was taking it at same time as all other medications , lansopromole was stopping my absorption, but I didn’t know either

Why are you trying to reduce your medication? Have you your doctors ' approval? I know that Bisoprolol can cause shortness of breath. In the 29 years of having atrial fibrillation, I was on Bisoprolol for only 12 weeks. It caused me to have painful urticaria,(hives), and it caused me to have an asthmatic attack, which meant emergency admission to hospital. Yet millions of people tolerate Bisoprolol well. There are other beta blockers which could work better for you. There are also Calcium channel blockers which some people have instead of beta blockers.

I was on the maximum dose of Flecainide for 10 years, and it worked.

We are not medically trained . Don't mess around with your prescribed drugs without talking first to doctors and specialists.

Be happy, stay safe.

Well for the past yr , after 13 yrs of being on flecinde and bisoprolol iam beginning, to get awful side effects , had none before in all that time , it has come to a point where I can’t go far and end up laying on settee feeling ill , also a passing out feeling in bed sometimes, I’m also on levothyroxine for thyroid , my heart is fine all ecgs ok , my af nurse as said to stop medication if making me feel that ill and use as and when pill in pocket , but I’m very anxious to do that , so trying ,on my doses to see which way can make me feel better , just feel like I’m going round in circles , I realy just want to stay on as I were , as if suited me

I was able to reduce flecanide to 25 mg 3xday from 100 2xday. also changed from carvedilol 12.5 mg 2xday to 3.125 mg 2xday but that didn't keep heart rate well so changed to 25 mg metoprolol ER 1xday. I felt like a zombie on the original dosages. Had to use a walker; always out of breath and no energy. Now I'm back to normal. It takes finding a doctor willing to work with you if you're sensitive to medication. I have a few palpatations now on the very. low dosages, but well worth feeling alive again. Best of luck to you.

You might want to talk to your doctor about taking 25 mg flecanide three times a day instead of 50 mg once or twice per day. It really made a tremendous difference with me. Not taking flecanide at all did not work for me. Too many palpitations. Take care.
