I have been feeling so weak. I do a little physically and have to sit down

I’m taking Eliquis. Valsartin. Metropolol

Just wondering how others deal with this fatigue and shortness of breath?

Are you in persistent AF or does AF come and go? I can’t say that fatigue and breathlessness are universal symptoms of Af unless there are other factors at play but some of the Beta Blockers can cause these symptoms. I’ve had them occasionally but Ihave co-morbidities.

An AF episode on it’s own used to wipe me out for a day or two whilst I recovered but it wasn’t all day, every day but we all react differently.

What does your doctor at say?

How long have you been taking those medications ? If for a short period, fatigue and breathlessness can be side effects with Metoprolol but your system may adjust over time for some relief.

Could you share if you have other heart issues and the need for Valsartin ?

Hi

Disregard DEPRESSION if you are not depressed.

I'm NOT and being flagged off with such a state is not helpful.

BB Metoprolol clearly is a culprit whilst Bisoprolol is another BB low dose BB Bisoprolol helped me with BP and leaving it out shos strain on heart with an ECG.

Clearly low doses of valuable meds is most helpful.

With me Cardiac Specialists try to blame thyroid problems and Surgeon will blame Cardiac problems.

But I keep my TSH at 1.0-2.0. T3 is 3.9-4.1 Normal and T4 tortal is at top 22ish.

So I'm not hyper or hypo thyroidism.

Its heart and heart meds. I understand when I stop walkig it is the heart catching up with balancing the oxygen around the body. That seems feasible.

But I histoty is i runing 100yds and metres and wnning even at age 38-40.

Now 75 the orgas are showinf wear!

I got this way with any beta blocker - bisoprolol was the worst but what ever beta blockers, calcium channel blockers or any rate or rhythm control medication they tried me on seemed to work and I tried about 6 different ones during my first year with AF. Just before my first cardioversion was put on digoxin 125 and after a few weeks on that had the same thing - it always seemed to take about 3 - 4 weeks before this happened. Asked my GP to lower the dose and that seemed OK but had only been on it for about 5 weeks when I had my cardioversion and didn't need to take them and asked not to go back on them when reverted to AF. Now I just take Eliquis and every thing seems fine. It may be that you need a change of dosage or medication. It would be best if you discuss this with your Cariologist or EP.

All the best.

My chronic fatigue arrived around the same time as the paroxysmal AF after an episode of shingles when the pain came before the rash and I couldn’t get an antiviral. I have to take things very easy and rest much of the time. Fortunately, my husband now does most of the things I can no longer do and has become my carer, as I need to rest most of the time now, especially after any light activities like visiting friends or going to meetings. But I am 80 now so guess something would have got me by now and fortunately, my brain still works!! Taking Flecainide regularly keeps my heart in order but it does seem to add to the fatigue (and tummy troubles!)

Hi, I often feel weak and tired, but I think some of that is depression not drugs as I'm not currently on Bisoprolol. Often what helps me is being outside, sunlight, and something physical, walk or gardening and do it everyday if poss, although current weather doesn't help. If you do something and fall asleep after then at least you can say I did it.

Hi

It happened with me on Metoprolol.

After Stroke the Endocrinologist ran through the drugs.

Metoprolo said NO it will make me BREATHLESS on ANY EXERTION. She still gave it to me.

Statin Atorvastatin NO. But I accepted 10mg.

PRADAXA 110 x twice daily.

With the Stroke I had AF Rapid and Persistent.

Sent home with no follow up!

I was a zombie. Exertion was bad and I would have to collapse into bed and sleep.

Within the initial 4 days I was given a CAROTID ARTERIES SCAN. The shadow o my THYROID lead to being diagnosed of Papillary Thyroid Cancer.

An argument pursued . Endocrinologist wait 6 mths post stroke but Suegeon and Anaesthetist ASAP. It got to various other tests e.g. voice box and operation @ 4 months. 12 right lymph nodes removed and 2 were affected.

4 years on my February Scan shows 3 suspicious areas so on 6th May I drink RAIodine and 2 more days until the Neuro-SCAN No. 3 SCAN.

With regards heart and meds a 24hr Heart Monitor showed Metoprolol gave me pauses at night! H/Rate 186. Cause of breathlessness and pauses.

ECHO, ECG showed heart slightly enlarged, LA severely dilated, RV slightly regurgitating. Mitral Valve slightly leaking.

Pressure OK, Systollic Response OK.

Finally saw a Heart Specialist changed to bisoprolol but Heart Rate uncontrolled Day. 156 H/Rate Day, 47avg Night.

So Locum said Private Specialist. Introduced CCB Calcium Channel Blocker. Diltiazem went from 180mg to 120mg Slow Release.

Been on it now 2 years 3 months.

Regime

AM Diltiazem 120mg for controlling Heart Rate.

PM Bisoprolol 2.5mg for controlling BP

Since diagnosed with Soft Systollic Heart Murmur.

October 2023 ECHO showed Heart size normal range. Still LA dilated and RV regurgitating.

Control of H/Rate. and BP

123/69. was 86-96 but I lost 6kg now 69s Day 47 Night avg.

Ilose energy whilst walking and stop for seconds nt breathless. No over sweating.

Cant walk briskly, or run but cping withmy lot. Daily short exertion is great for the heart muscle. I mow small lawn with a plastic Enviroment Battery driven mower.

Do have ECHO and 24-hr Heart Monitor to see what is happening.

BBs and CCBs need to be separated.

And I continue to take PRADAXA 110mg x twice as well as my 125mg Synthroid thyroxin tabs early morning.

Take care.

Banned list includes Metropolol, ACE blockers - coughed with inhibrace. Take Statin 10mg when I want as it causes throbbing of toe amd latest operation site upper right arm - iner rotator cuff.
