Yes, and no. Yes I've had the two together, as I have exacerbations of asthma, the last on December 2023, and my anticoagulant of choice is warfarin which I take daily. I take 7mg of warfarin daily. During the last exacerbation of asthma I took 40mg a day for a week. There has never been any interaction between the two drugs.

Hello,

Thanks very much for your reply, just wanted to check my understanding, so took 7 mg daily Warfarin and 40 mg prednisone for a week and Warfarin was stable during this time ?!

The internet drug interaction check says: Prednisolone increases the effect or level of Warfarin.

I'm on Warfarin daily 4 mg (lifelong) and I'm considering a few weeks of Prednisolone with my Rheumatologist but I wanted to check how other patients managed this two medication together.

It was just for a week I have my own Coaguchek INR meter and check every 6 weeks or so. The asthma exacerbation was between INR checks.

I did have 4 years of Polymyalgia Rheumatica, during which time I took a very slowly reducing dose of daily prednisolone, but cannot remember if I was on warfarin at that time.

When my AF started over 10 years ago, I was put on Warfarin but I quickly found that I could never get my INR to be stable. I was being tested and dose adjusted every week! The nurse told me that the prednisolone that I was taking for Ulcerative Colitis significantly changed the effectiveness of Warfarin. The dose of prednisolone that I took varied according to how my UC was behaving, which also didn’t help.

I’m now on Apixaban and Flecainide for my AF and don’t have UC anymore as I don’t have a colon😀

Good luck
