When in hospital once I was told to drink water to raise my blood pressure. Give it a go and see if it helps. Doing that raised mine.

If you are feeling unwell than you need to dial the NHS 111 no. and seek advice. What medication are you taking now?

I think I shall take myself upto a n e which is just round the corner from me I'm on a very low dose of verapamil 40mg a day only

Verapamil reduces blood pressure, so they may tell you to reduce your dose. Let us know how you get on please.

Good luck at A&E.

How is your electrolyte intake? If you are drinking a lot of water you could be depleting electrolytes, especially if you don’t take salt.

Walking around will raise your BP but a good tip is to crouch and strain - raises BP quickly.

As long as BP is over 90 systolic you should be OK but if you aren’t used to BP being that low it takes some getting used to! Don’t stand up quickly & move from lying down to sitting to standing slowly and gradually. Don’t sit for long periods & keep legs raised when you do, get up and move/walk around for 10 mins in every hour.

Hope that helps.

Thanks ...you are always full of such positive advice. BP is around 90/54 ... bpm is good at average of 75 ....

Hi

90/54!

Go to hospital.

Your bpm is fine.

Not sure whether others get it. Your Systollic is 54!

Mine is 79. Diastollic 110-130. bpm 60s

And I'm on Diltiazem 120mg am for heart beats

Bisprolol 2.5mg pm for BP

other folk find Bisoprolol does both controls but not me. No ablations.

The hospital may tell you to stop your Ver........... it's either a BB or Ace Blocker.

I implore you to get urgent medical attention.

I wouldn’t say thats good! I’d deck it! Dire stolic matters too. Diastolic is more the static reading, personally I feel the reading is too low and needs to be checked by medic

Hi

Hers is 90 diastollic / 54 Systollic Far too low. Urgency medically.

Electrolyte would include pinch salt and glucose. Flavour it with squeeze lemon or lime even better.

Having lived with those numbers and lower all of my life I can honestly say I have NEVER had it considered as an urgent medical problem, in fact was told by GP- wasn’t I very lucky to have such low BP.

Living with it is a pain but unless it is caused by suspected internal bleeding, not an urgent medical problem

api.heartrhythmalliance.org...

Having said that, now living with stabilised BP is much better and was achieved as soon as I stopped all heart meds and started taking Pyridostigamine - for another condition - but higher BP numbers was an added benefit. Now hovers around 100-115/70-80.

Hi

Gee 100/80 that's great now.

You stated "that her Systollic be at least 90.

But she needs monitoring on the Ver........ BP medication.

Were you not on any medication to be as low as hers. Has the ablation caused it?

If it was me, I would stop the Ver..... don't you think?

My Bsoprolol 2.5mg dropped my blood pressure from 155/96. to. 110-120. /. 79.

It depends on how the person actually feels on that, I’d deck it! I would feel bad. If you’re used to such low readings this’ll be why you feel ok.

It's the wrong way round.Think of a triangle. The short name (systolic) is on top and the long name (diastolic) on the bottom.

The same applies to Arctic and Antarctic.

Also The Tropic of Cancer and tropic of Capricorn.

Hi

Thank you, I realised.

Been reading High Blood Pressure!

Ring A&E if BP is 180/120. With chest pain, heart sensations etc.

Recently when I went to Cardiac Specialst he OKed me @ 140/79 but then the ECG dropped it down to 130/69.

I do have a soft systolliic heart murmur. Yes top score.

White coat elevation is always a problem.

Good👍🏻 Drinking lot of water you’ll pee more so do need to add bit salt etc

And salt?

jeanjeannie50 profile image
jeanjeannie50 in reply toBuffafly

Probably that would help too. I once went back into normal sinus rhythm after eating a lot of Doritos (blue pack). Also there have been people on this forum who have said that drinking water with salt in has cured an AF attack.

Drinking water can actually cause your blood pressure to lower not get higher. It's the self care strategy used to reduce your heart rate and blood pressure in versions of cardiac condition that involve Orthostatic ( positional and movement) triggers.

Although increasing hydration through the day can help blood pressure issues and cardiac recovery , one thing that needs consideration if you have low blood pressure is whether you are low in electrolytes already, if so , too much water can make this problem worse as it eliminated even more sodium and potassium from the body. Drinking more water could have furthered the problem in this case.

Sunnyann would be better going to the GP and getting a Kidney Function / Electrolytes blood test and full examination before making any changes to reduce the risk of taking the wrong steps to solve the problem.

Apart from the low BP reading (which could be medication related), that was how I felt after my 2nd ablation 1-month ago. All I wanted to do was lay on the bed. Whilst I am not out of the woods with the symptoms yet, they are much calmer and I am able to function a little more like a human. On the surface, it sounds like you are just in the early recovery period as I was. Recovery from this 2nd ablation, is much more difficult and protracted than the 1st one I had and it sounds like it's the same for you.

I felt like that when on BP meds. I have developed low diastolic pressure which is apparently a sign of heart stiffening, in my case probably due to age. When you think of how it hurts to move an injured joint maybe your heart is suffering from a similar symptom? This is entirely my own funny little idea and happy for anyone to prove me wrong. Hopefully you’ll feel better in time.

Good morning Sunnyann from a beautiful sunny morning here in North Somerset.

I had a couple of ablations which failed to keep me in normal sinus rythmn, so in the end I had a pacemaker fitted with AV node ablated. I am back to my normal activities and feel quite well for a 79 year old.

I found certain tablets played havoc with me, especially Bisoprolol which caused eratic BP and feeling very tierd most of the time

My wife had a similar issue with tablets which caused issues one of which made her breathing very difficult and she had to stop every few yards when outside. We saw a Consultant who after various tests said he could find no problems so it may be the mix of tablets, which it was.

After changing certain ones, she is back to normal with a vey normal BP and HR

Ask your consultant re the tablet you are on, in case it is a problem to you

Best of luck

Dave

I agree with most of the suggestions. I have naturally low BP and I have been PAF for a little over a year. I've only taking medication and haven't tried any procedures. In attempts to counter the BP lowering side effects from Metroprolol plus provide a cushion, my doctor had me to take 1 gram of salt tablets. It worked for awhile but it was hard on my stomach (salt) and the Metroprolol wasn't working and the side effects were aweful (metroprolol). He had me quit the salt tablets and prescribed Midodrine which raises my BP. I'm quite pleased with the Midodrine. I added Gatorlyte which contains potassium and magnesium helps to raise the BP and calms my heart. The Metroprolol still wasn't working and I have since been switched to Sotolol plus the Midodrine. The first week was amazing but as I acclimated to the new routine. I found the tiredness creeping back and the BP is low towards the night and early morning. (A drawback to the Midodrine is that you must have your head above your heart for at least 4 hours so no laying flat for a nap) Try salty snacks such as salted nuts, whole grain crackers with salt and get up every 30 minutes for a small task or light walking. I find that when my BP is low it seems to kick off the PAF, the doctor thinks it's in my head. BTW, I'm located in the States. Wishing you much success and keep us informed on how it goes.
