Hi all I started on Bisoprolol 2.5mg once a day and Apixaban 5mg in October, since then just eating my usual diet and not overeating I am constantly gaining weigh, about a pound a month.

I really want to shed this excess weight but I wonder if I’m fighting a losing battle now I’m on these drugs.

My weight is completely stable but that doesn’t mean that it’s not affecting you differently. I suggest logging everything you eat and drink for a few days to see if there are any extra calories sneaking here and there, then think about whether there are any simple swaps. Sometimes it’s just bad habits that we’re not paying attention to. Diet quality is far more important than the number on a scale so perhaps work on that before embarking on drastic changes. Did you watch the series presented by Michael Mosley on Channel 4 recently? It’s called Secrets of Your Big Shop and it’s available on catchup. The thing that stood out was that just about all of the people featured in the show insisted they were eating healthily but the reality was usually quite different.

Yes. They slow metabolism. I’ve experienced weight gain since starting Bisoprolol, though less pronounced than yours. My weight had always been stable prior to this. I also can see on my iWatch that my cardio fitness fell off a cliff at the same time. However as my initial afib coincided with Covid, who knows which is chicken and which is egg.

Same here! I suddenly put on a ridiculous amount of weight when my diet had just not changed!!

Could it be water retention?

Nothing to indicate that it could be that, just bizarre weight gain! Now managing to slowly lose weight following the ZOE programme

Thanks for replying folks, I’m having up to date blood tests next week so I will mention it when I’m at the surgery.

Unfortunately they do slow your metabolism, I have the same issue, I just try the keep active and eat healthy

Yes. I gained weight too after 14 days of bisoprolol. 5 kg or more. And I didn't eat much. I was actually on diet. And it's so hard to loose weight now.
