So I am a short stocky bloke, 58, still active, play 5 a side, dance, DIY, I do like my food. So had persistent AF for 8 years taking 5 to 10 mg of Bisoprolol daily. Is this making me fat ? I have made so many changes to my diet, more exercise, less alcohol , but still gaining weight.

Bisoprolol and weight gain
Beta blockers do seem to slow down metabolism so intake needs to reduce to cope otherwise weight gain results. It s a battle for sure I am told.(never taken beta blockers myself.)
I am only taking 1.25 mg / day and I have found I have to seriously diet 5 days a month to keep my weight steady. My resting HR droped from 58 to 53 which is about 10%. So I figure my entire metabolism is down that much. Harder to do during lock down. Good luck
Well, that might explain why I'm finding it so hard to lose weight. So frustrating, I feel for you.
Having AF makes us tired, we generally find that we can no longer do energetic things for as long as we used to and yes beta blockers slow us down as well as our heart rate.
A friend who was a keen walker was first diagnosed at a check up with a doctor, he was unaware he had AF. Doctor put him on beta blockers and when I asked how he was he said he got tired quicker when out walking and puffed more on the hills.

I feel your pain Tony, I put on nearly two stone when on Bisoprol, I too was careful in what I ate, I couldn't do too much exercise so I cut my portion sizes which didn't help.
I said it to my consultant and he said he hadn't heard of weight gain being a problem before.
A quick Google and a look through the patient leaflet and both said weight gain could be a side effect.
I've lost 3.5 stone in the last 9 months and I'm on bisoprolol. It doesn't have to make you gain weight, you just can't eat like you did before, be calorie aware (I don't count every calorie I eat) and gradually reduce portion sizes.
