I had my ablation on 19th September and I’m still getting palpitations. These started a few days after my ablation. My heart misses beats and then has a very short run of about 3 or 4 fast beats. Never had that before.I’ve still had no notification of my follow up appointment, which should have been before Xmas. Can anyone re-assure me about these palpitations. Did yours last this long.?. All the information says you get palpitations for several weeks, but it is now over 16 weeks since I had my ablation.

still having palpitations.

Hi, I had my cryoablation 7th December, in the pack I was given in the counselling session a few weeks before is all the contact details for the arrhythmia nurses and I have been in contact with them via email and telephone after an AF episode at day six. Also in the pack is a form to present to my GP requesting an ECG trace if required saying I’ve had an ablation. You should really be able to contact the arrhythmia nursing team where you had your procedure for advice, failing that I would ask your GP Surgery to do an ECG to record what you’re feeling. Also you could contact the EP’s secretary from contact details on letters.
Hope this helps.
PS, I’m in my last week of lansoprazole, how was you coming off them afterwards ?
Thanks. I came off them slowly the last few days. Had no problems.Luckily have never had to take those sort of tablets before. My Drs don’t do ECG’s. Have to go to local hospital if I need one
Hope you can contact the team or secretary to give you the support you should have, mine have been excellent but it’s not the same everywhere unfortunately.
I see there are a few related posts that may be of help, look to the right of this page or the bottom if on a mobile.
How frequent are your ectopics? I am 4 years post-ablation and I still have daily missed beats and short runs of tachycardia (2 to 4 seconds). These can increase after eating, exercise and stress. I really hardly notice them unless they run more than several in a minute. I was told that this is pretty normal.
Thanks. Mine are coming several times an hour and sound like yours.I think they are worse in the morning, but I didn’t think you’d still get them after 4 years, so it looks like this could be my new normal. I was hoping they’d go eventually, but I’ll have to accept they probably won’t.I think I probably notice them more, when I’m not doing anything or am in bed.
I’m still having PACs and PVCs daily and my ablation was sep 22.
Thanks. You had your ablation not long after me. The information I’ve read, says to expect these palpitations for 8 weeks or so afterwards, but now it’s 16 weeks, I thought they’d go, but looks like they’re here to stay. Will be glad when I eventually get my 3 month follow-up appointment, (which is late) and I can ask about them and hopefully have an ECG, so they can see what’s going on. Hope your palpitations stop too and AFib stays away.
My Ablation was over two years ago and as I haven't had any AF since, I'm delighted with the result. Do I still get palpations? Oh yeah, after eating, drinking alcohol, stupidly becoming dehydrated, etc. Do I care? No, as long as it isn't AF!
Thanks.Seems like palpitations have come on in place of AFib, but as you say, it’s not AFib, which was horrible. I only got it occasionally, but it was always in the back of my mind, when the next episode would occur. Unfortunately, ablation is not like having your tonsils out, in that you’ll never know if it’s actually worked, unless the AFib comes back.!! Hope AFib stays away for you.
You are not alone. Had my 1st ablation 8 weeks ago and now getting nightly short bursts of fast thumps and missed beats, plus flutters.I guess its a long haul for us but keep your specialist aware.
All the best
It took a good 6 months after my ablation for things to settle and now I’ve been free of PAF for 12 months. In my experience, the information on this forum is much more useful than anything the hospital gives you.
Thanks. Looks like it takes longer than I thought it would, for things to settle down. Hopefully the palpitations will go eventually.🤞🤞. It certainly is helpful on this site and I’m grateful to everyone who has replied to any of my questions. It’s good to know you're not on your own. Our families and friends will never understand what it’s like to have these heart problems, unless they’ve gone through it themselves. Hope you stay Afib free.
Hi there,
Interesting to read all the comments. I had my ablation in March last year and I am getting constant palpitations though thankfully not full blown AF episodes but none the less very unsettling. I'm due to fly long haul soon and I'm seeing my gp soon to discuss my medication and a few other things I'm worried about....and there might be the issue eh? Me worrying!! I know definitely for me stress is a trigger and always was before the ablation. It's like it's trying all the time to wake up that 'bag of worms' but only gets so far. It's playing merry hell now as I type this. I'm also getting constant 'nippy' pain and it doesn't seem to matter whether I'm busy or resting.
I'm not seeing my EP till March which will be a year from the procedure and I've seen nobody in between to know if all this is ok. I know we are all different but for you it's still early days but like others are saying, check with your gp initially if for no other reason, like me for reassurance that it's all 'normal'.
stay well,
Blue
Thanks. I hate flying.!! You’d have to knock me out to get me on a plane again. Give me cruise ships any time. !!! I know the info said you get palpitations for a few weeks, but it looks like, in a lot of cases, it will last much longer. Will have to get used to it. Hopefully will get to see the Doctor who did my ablation, for the follow- up appointment, before too long. I expect the Drs strikes have delayed it, then he might be able to tell me what’s going on. Enjoy your holiday and hope your AFib stays away.
I had RF ablation in August 2016 and had a very rough time for two months post ablation: palpitations, AF and flutter. After two months and a couple of visits to ER, I stayed in NSR and have been since ('touch wood'). I still get palpitations, almost every day, some days, nothing. I know how unsettling your situation is because you think the ablation is going to mean NSR from day one but it doesn't work that way, for most people whose stories post ablation that I have read and it certainly wasn't my experience. Know that 'this too shall pass' as the saying goes and be patient. All the best! Steven
Coenzyme Q10 sorted my wonky beats out post ablation. I take 200mg daily. It literally was like a miracle. It can't or isn't recommended with warfarin. Loads of research on google scholar about afib and Q10 and inflammation.
Thanks.I’ve been taking those for a long time.Glad it worked for you. I take Statins and they say you should take COQ10, as Statins lower the body’s level of COQ10.
Frig it. Magnesium taurate? Tumeric to lower inflammation if it doesn't interfere with blood thinners?
Zero sugar or sweetener? Only a suggestion. Actually I saw somewhere today that someone was much better after cutting out gluten. I suppose anything is worth trying.
