My husband had a dvt event a few weeks ago and had the usual response of heparin injections for 4 days, and put on apixaban. I commented to him that Apixaban will sort out the clot in his femoral vein .The AC nurse stopped me and said,no, Apixaban does not work on actual clots it prevents further ones or enlarging of existing ones. It does assist the bodies own response system ,called D-Dimer which does disperse it eventually over the course of next few months. I thought it interesting to know.

I had blamed husband dvt on sitting too long sorting out his stamp collection, we are downsizing, but in hindsight it must have been a recent awful A and E visit.

Our lovely daughter in law has been diagnosed in April with an arachnoid cyst from her spine and suddenly had loss of feeling in a leg. Sent by GP and said they'd phone ahead. Perhaps they did. Husband took her in,12 hours later they got home, sat on metal benches.

By the way if anyone knows any information about treatments possible for the above we would be very grateful. She had another MRI and there have been ' changes ' its now pressing her equina calda out of place( tail bone area) according to the consultant who rang her few days later and said she had referred her 'upwards ' ( who too,God?!) As the nerve will only stand so much and she could end up doubly incontinent and lose feeling in leg more . She was so upset! All she has been given is better pain medication so far,no follow up through yet after 4 weeks.

We wondered if we could try to track down who she has been referred 'upwards to by ringing appointments at UHCW?

As well as moving house probably just after Xmas and currently packing for Britain ,there's a lot going on here!

Oh and I accepted orders for my Xmas holly wreathes as normal before we sold the house. So ,knee deep in holly and ivy doing 66 of the damn things....

Keep taking the tablets and carry on....

I did actually know that about the clots as a friends young grandson has clots in various places (diagnosed when he was 3, bless him) and they were told that anticoagulants would not dissipate the existing clots, just manage them and prevent further ones. Poor kid can't participate in sports like his friends but he seems to accept this.Hope hubby recovers well but as for DIL, I'd get in touch with PALS to find out who to chase up as you know as well as I do, you'll be passed from pillar to post ......... trying to get hold of my eye consultant secretary recently, I was put through to Endoscopy and the diabetic clinic!!!

Is the Hayes missing a few holly bushes now? 😁

Bless you, talk about it never rains but it pours! It's interesting what the nurse said about Apixaban and blood clots.

You certainly have a lot going on right now. Your lovely daughter in law having problems too, so sorry to hear that, please send her my best wishes for a solution.

Yes, I'd do everything in my power to bring her appointment with a consultant forward.

Are your Christmas wreaths for your personal use, family or to sell? I have the equipment to make one and all the greenery including red berries etc. in my garden. I must get a move on

Take care.

Jean

Yes Jean, sell to village. I like doing them normally, nice to spot them around. Lost enthusiasm this year tbh!Yes daughter in law my priority at the moment, not that hubby isn't on the list but being sorted, whereas it all seems a bit woolly with Laura. She needs to be seen ASAP now I think, gotta gut feeling. On the case.

Wreaths, soak all your greenery in a bucket for a few days ,gives it a boost!

Maybe try it myself 😆 bucket, warm water see what happens 🤔

Thank you Jean, appreciate it. Sometimes I feel like I am The One that everyone else looks to sort things out or at least organise. I do probably not help that as I can't be doing with handwringing and wailing.

Fool to myself! Xx

It's not surprising your enthusiasm for wreaths has waned this year hope your daughter in law is sorted soon, poor lass. And your hubby is ok now. Keep up the good. work. Best of luck.

What a nightmare, all of this happening at once! A house move is enough. Lots of good wishes to your husband and daughter-in-law. I agree with those suggesting that she chase it up, as it will be an urgent matter. (Sometimes it feels to me that if communication were to improve in the NHS, that would be a big step forward in how we felt about our treatment. Just getting an automated notification of the referral - and who to, so that you actually know that something is happening!)

Look after yourself too!

Thanks for the tip about anticoags and at our ages not to sit in a stressful situation for too long. I got a dvt in my leg 20 years ago by driving non-stop for 5 hours on the motorway in the rain.

Use all your determination and sense of humour and if necessary your wallet to get an early appointment for your daughter in law.

Stamp collecting that's a hobby that's disappeared 🤔. Does that mean values will go up in the future or down??

Oh my goodness- that's a LOT. Could you not cancel the orders and refund as needed for the wreaths given the circumstances? Or does the creativity distract and uplift a little?

You are right, focusing on the flowers etc with Classic FM and the conservatory door firmly shut helps me ' get away' thank you Singwell x

Now if only I were closer, I'd put in an order...I usually make my own from bits and bobs in the garden. Very pagan!

Ah sounds lovely! Mine are a bit alternative too. I'll show you the door ones later in the week, lots of trailing ivy etc. I make my own bases with willow or oasis tied to metal rings with string.
