Metropolo
Hi Bailey - by asking ‘this problem’ - do you mean the breathlessness, being in persistent Af or controlling your BP?
Metoprolol is a beta blocker used mainly to treat BP, Angina and control high heart rate. It is not usually a first choice for AF patients. Beta blockers in general may make you breathless because their job is to stop you exerting yourself to reduce the strain on your heart.
You have given very little other information such any underlying conditions such as cardiomyopathy, angina etc? How long have you been in persistent AF? Have any other treatment options been suggested or is this a first treatment?
Many people on this forum are in persistent AF
Many people have breathlessness as a symptom of AF but also as a side affect of Beta Blockers.
Many people have Hypertension - high BP.
Was the Metoprolol prescribed by GP or a specialist?
Most importantly - have you been advised regarding taking anticoagulants, commonly known as ‘blood thinners’?
Hope this helps a little.
I am on metropolo for heart rate and blood pressure and I am on ELIQUS AND 25MG WATER PILL! This is all I am on and I went on my Tredmill today and do okay, I was surprised and I did walk not run!
I am on metoprolol and the cardiologist upped Eliqus from 5mg to 10 mg per day, seems my body can’t process that and have not felt good since he put me on this. I am 89 and do get lightheaded when I do too much. Since taking the larger dose of Eliquis seems I get breathless for no reason, I will see what would be the risks of going back to 5 mg. Does anyone else have a breathing problem when on Eliquis?I have permenant AFib
I am on 5mg twice a day Eliqus and Metropolo from my heart doctor! I do get short of breath after I set down from doing house work! I just turned 80 yrs old last week! I tried many other meds for AFIB but had side effects from most of them! I have high blood pressure and take these meds plus a 25mg of water pill a day! I also have high heart rate and Metropolo seems to do the job but I do get dizzy , but I am in Afib all the time, since september! A few weeks ago I had a conversion , they stopped my heart and shocked it but did not work! So they are trying meds to control it !
Hi
It will be the Metoprolol. Breathless, fatigue and no energy. A 24hr Heart Monitor showed pauses at night.
Change to Bisoprolol. Specialist changed me.
Also it did nothing much for my H/R Day.
Private H/Spec introduced CCB Diltiazem. I lost 105bpm in 2 hours.
Now on
Diltiazem 120mg AM for rapid H/R
Bisoprolol 2.5mg PM for hypertension.
Bingo I am finally CONTROLLED in both.
Cheers Joy. 74. (NZ)

A couple of weeks ago I was on DILTIAZEM AND I was so dizzy , I had to hang on to my washers tight , afraid I was going to fall! I could not go to a store worrying about this! I was on 120 mg a day too! Meds and I do not get along too well!
