I’ve had acupuncture- not specifically for AF but for pain & sinus which was very efficacious.

There has been some research to show it has been quite effective for some, certainly calms the system which can help you cope. There is a specific pressure point on the palm of the hand & corresponding points up the arm.

Like all things AF - works for some and not others.

I tried acupuncture. A pleasant experience, but I'm still on the forum...I looked for the Chinese herb thing that was being talked about a year or two ago (Wenxin... Something??) But it was only available from China, and there were no papers on it available so I left it alone.

Interesting to find your question as I had my introductory session with a lovely woman who does Accupuncture last Monday and am due to see her again tomorrow. I was recommended to try it for the chronic fatigue I have as it helped a much younger friend get rid of hers, but I have mentioned the AF, so shall see how it goes. The Flecainide dose I take prevents episodes but comes with added fatigue! After the initial session, I am to have another 4, apparently, and it will be great if it works!

Not had acupuncture, but I have a vet surgeon daughter who is needle phobic! She suffers from sinusitis and migraine. Do the acupuncture needle hurt? She has very sensitive skin and hypersensitivity to touch etc,-she is also autistic!🙄

Sian used such incredibly fine needles I couldn’t feel them at all and we get on very well which I’m sure helps. Previously, a dreadful GP rammed a needle in my neck and left the room as did a bloke I tried soon after I was first diagnosed but Sian is lovely and stays with me and we chat.

I have been a practitioner of Tai Chi and Qi Gong for over 30 years. I studied under Masters and the occasional Grand Master. Read and researched with a bias towards health and vitality. Pre Covid I was sort of loosing interest but when Covid struck it re awakened the sleeping dragon. I have been doing my 45 min to 1 hr routine 5 days a week sisince. With a bias towards heart and lung health. Though none of it helped my prostate as I've just returned from a radical operation. No exercise now for 4 to 6 weeks.

Does it help heart and lungs. I would say yes. My suggestion is to find a local teacher with a bias to health not martial. There are lots of really good Facebook sites that I follow.follow. it would be too complex to try and describe exercises and acupressure points in a post like this. Search Facebook and utube. But come back to me if you feel i can help. Best wishes.

Thanks so much 👍 will look into it ☺️

I know absolutely nothing about acupuncture and as far a I know, and apart from Mrs FJ who tried it for back pain relief, I don’t know anyone who has tried it for any specific ailment so anything I say is based on assumptions. If acupuncture can have beneficial effects on conditions which can aggravate AF, such as anxiety, stress, increased blood pressure etc etc then logic suggests there can be some benefits. I would have thought that it’s unlikely to have any impact on any heart problems which could cause rogue impulses.

The only other thought which occurs to me is that isn’t fortunate that DOACs only tend to cause a modest increase in the risk of bleeding 😉😂

But AF is an intermittent electrical problem not a structural problem in the heart, so Accupuncture just might get at it!

Edited 😉

Hi. I don’t know if you’re already on blood thinners, but that makes it difficult to do Chinese herbs because Cardiologist don’t know about it. I am actually going to a functional cardiologist who studied integrative medicine as well because I have a Lyme disease infection and the doctor specialist wants to treat me with Herbs and I’ve had a hard time finding a cardiologist. Who knows if it’s safe with blood thinners. So if you’re not on them, I would recommend trying alternative herbs sooner rather than later. I know there is an herb that specifically used for atrial fibrillation. If I find it, I will write back to you. all the best to you and all of us on this journey!

Chinese medicinal herbs made me feel much worse and I wouldn't touch it again. If you do decide to use it approach it through an accredited practitioner and not just some bloke on the high-street. Acupuncture was really helpful in a general way that very relaxing and pleasant.
