I came across this website which contains a lot of useful information. a-fib.com
I had my first Afib event early this year prior to an operation to remove 1/2 my thyroid due to a large goitre causing hyperthyroidism. However since the operation I’ve not had an A-fib occurance except for an increase in ectopic heart beats, which are driving me nuts. I guess my stress levels don't help due to personal problems. I take a number of supplements to help my heart such as Taurine, Arginine, Magnesium, D-Ribose, CO Q10 and fish oil, which seem to help.

Let's hope all remains stable now. The thyroid op has likely fixed the root cause. Ectopic beats can be very annoying and worrying, too and, in my case, not feel so very different from AF itself at times.
Steve
I read somewhere recently that fish oils are not good for AF- can’t remember where I read it now but think it was on the AF forum chat
Hi Needlewoman, I may have spotted the same comment so was prompted only this morning to go back and check the full notes for my Edoxaban meds (Lixiana) . The unreferenced comment said Omega3 supplements are not to be taken alongside DOAC'S. The only homeopathy reference is to St John's wort as not to be taken. I do take fish oil tablets every other day following gallbladder removal, because of the way the digestive system absorbs these useful essentials. There is a perceived circulation benefit for Omega3 I understand is the claim, which can act on top of the DOAC. I can't find any clinical references supporting this statement. I do eat oily fish, have a good diet so have always been sceptical about supplements. I shall still take the fish oil supplements but may reduce to every third day.
Hope this helps and the anti meds people don't hijack this response!
Thanks for the link which is a quite clear summary. I'm a tad surprised by the use of mg, very tiny amount, and it would be helpful if the natural dietary contribution of foodstuffs was provided so that a direct understanding of any deficit could be determined eg 25g of mackeral contain xxxmg of omega 3.
Hello Alexis - hyperthyroidism caused my Afib, too but since the thyroid issue was resolved I don't think I have had any Afib episodes. My understanding is that thyroid induced Afib is one of the very few times when the Afib might more or less disappear. Emphasis on might. Are you currently on any medication for the Afib. I am now only on anticoagulants, but just wondering if your Afib is being kept in check by drugs or if you think the removal of the goitre and your supplements alone are keeping things steady. I have also had a few ectopics which I certainly never noticed before.
