Apixaban and indigestion

I have been changed from Rivaroxaban to Apixaban and since the changeover I seem to be getting a very sore chest (like reflux burning). Does anyone else have this? I didn't have anything like that on Rivaroxaban.

I do have some Lansaoprazole, but I read somewhere that taking remedies can lessen the effects of any of the heart tablets and Apixaban????????

I've taken Apixaban for around 3 years with no problems. Best to avoid Lansoprazole if possible. Ask your pharmacist if it's OK for you to take Gaviscon...…...

Thank you. I will ask our pharmacist as he's really good and nice.

When I was fluttering few days ago, I felt soreness high up and right across my chest... I think its the heart complaining about all the frenetic work it has to do... Once normal sinus rhythm comes back, the soreness went in a day or so... However, arrhythmias are described as one of the few heart conditions where ablation can be applied and is "Curative".... It is bloody scary though, but there is much reason for optimism and that sets in as time passes...

It's more like burning like acid reflux. Perhaps that's what it is? If it goes on I will pop along to GP, but in the meantime I will do as Flapjack says and ask the pharmacist whether OK to take gaviscon. Thank you

That's interesting as whenever I have had af the day after I too suffer from what feels like very bad burning/reflex/indigestion. It's horrible. I am on Rivaroxaban and although I have taken Omperozole (?spelling) & Gaviscon to help relieve it, they don't always work and it can take up to 2 days for it to settle.

Like already mentioned your heart & body have taken quite a battering so no wonder our digestion system is affected

Yes it is horrible, although I don't feel as if I've had a particularly bad time of Afib and it is only since I've been changed from Rivaroxaban to Apixaban. Maybe coincidence, but as if we haven't enough to contend with, eh.

This flutter/afib is SO scary and I was quite ashamed of myself for being so scared. The 5 seconds flat lines (times 5) on the EKG (Cardizem+meto) really spooked me and it took a week to get my nerve back...I am back doing my two 25mgs daily and I feel so settled. And yes you are right, and we are so fortunate compared these folk who lay in bed for 3 months and have 4 attacks every day ! I would be calling for ablations constantly.... If 25 mg isn't enough, no doubt a flutter event will alert me to that...in the meantime I reckon it will hold me until say August if ablation is possible (or even desirable)

Why were you changed? Did you have other side effects on Rivaroxaban? Perhaps you could ask to change back.

Well the medics didn’t know specifically that rivaroxaban was the cause, but I kept getting blood in my urine which each time tested definitely no infection, so as I have one dodgy kidney they thought that maybe the rivaroxaban was causing it to bleed????? So changed to apixaban as allegedly that is kinder on the innards??????????? Hope you all will be well

Personally l would stay away from rivaroxaban, you mentioned blood in the urine...l kept getting it from the bowel...swapped to apixaban with no trouble at all...theres a big case happening in the USA over rivaroxaban as they are getting sued for causing bleeding.....l take Lanzoperale everyday with out issues... the soreness in the middle of the chest could be the vagal nerve as it passes next to the stomach l was informed....

Oh thank you. Perhaps I will give lansoprazole a couple of weeks trial. I haven’t managed to see my gp or pharmacist yet, but I can still get their opinions on gaviscon.

Glad you are fine now.
