i seem to have noticed a pattern between heart fluttering sensations when im hungry? Or havent eaten for a good few hours? Does anyone else find this correlation… or is it just coincidence

hi, have they still not found out the cause? No more tests lately? I’ve started running again and so far, so good

Hey. Nothing yet. Still on a waiting list for an echo.. might be in october. I might suggest another ECG for longer than 24hours.

Cardiologist suggested just a ‘wait and see approach’ …

Running is fine i dont feel anything during the faster HR sessions just during the lower end its drops out of sync is what i can describe it as

Hi there , yes what you describe as heart rate staying in sync during high effort excercise and more likely to go out of sync during relaxation was how I was before my treatment..I also had an ecg for 24 hours which showed up nothing and it was the next ecg tests that lasted for two weeks that eventually showed the afib for the cardiologist...definatley ask them for a second ecg where you get to keep the monitor for a couple of weeks and hopefully that will show the cardiologist the information he needs to help sort out your fluttering heart beats..all the best andy...

thats great thanks. Do you know if i can request this from the GP or would i have to wait for my next cardiologist appointment .. technically the investigation isnt with the GP anymore

The cardiologist would be my first choice to try and organise a two week ecg monitor with , but f you feel your not getting anywhere you could ask your gp to chase it up for you...

yes was going to say im not 100% sure who my direct contact for cardiology would be. I think i need to do some digging. Thank you 😀 .. the last thing cardiology said was ‘no cause for concern’ but it is a very annoying sensation and do want answers whats causing it

Yes I remember my gp saying nothing to worry about when nothing happened on my first 24 hr ecg but when it started again a few months later I went private and that's when I got the two week monitor which showed it up...but yours does sound more like etopics than af to be honest and if they haven't really got any worse since they started the other year I would try not to worry to much..but for your peace of mind a chase up for the longer ecg wouldn't do any harm and it could give you the answers you are searching for ..all the best andyb

Yes I too get a few flutters when not eaten for a few hours. Happens quite often but not sure why this happens. Something to do with low energy and the heart struggling slightly perhaps. Eat little and often is the usual saying.

My AF was more likely to kick off if I ate a filling meal and then walked anywhere. I'd go walking with a group and all I'd take with me was a banana and some nuts. I remember looking around at all the goodies other people had with envy. Anything in bread would have been a sure trigger. Even now, I'm better and have more energy if not eating a lot.

The Vagus Nerve can be over sensitive and trigger issues, usually as Jean says when eating too much but I would guess also when the pressure of the stomach is much reduced.

As others have said, I normally have had issues in the past when eating the wrong things, or too big a meal, not when hungry. I do hope you get your problems sorted.

It could be just coincidence. Whe. You say flutters, what’s happening? Is it fast irregular Afib?

just a flopping fish sensations.. HR is usually between 50- 60bpm when i feel it. Just just be alot of ectopic beats together maybe

Do you wear an applewatch or Smart watch? Have you done an ECG/Kardia when you get them? You’d know what was going on then. I notice you say you’re going to ask if you can have a monitor for over 24 hrs next time, sadly by the time you get that, it could take months.

Have you seen a cardiologist? Have they done an echo? Have they ever said it’s Afib?

Blondie12345 profile image
Blondie12345 in reply toTeresa156

no they havent said its Afib i was just thinking the symptom sounded similar but from reading peoples stories it appears to be more when the HR is higher rather than lower.

When i had my 24 hour ecg there was ‘no cause for concern’ but i didn’t exactly have the fluttering quivering feeling during the test which is why i dont know whether to ask for another one.

I am waiting months for an Echocardiogram which is what the next step the cardiologist mentioned and apart from that just a ‘wait and see approach’

I see below you’ve had a very helpful reply from Steve…I would seriously look into getting a Kardia or similar like the one Steve suggests if this continues to worry you, as I can see it is ….you’ll be waiting forever for the NHS. I must admit, it does sound like ectopics and not Afib. When I have had afib it’s been in the 180s, dropping occasionally to the 50s then back up again…to be in the 50s and 60s like yours is, it’s highly unlikely,

Yes, and very much so. They are not often AF, just ectopic beats, in my case (at least according to the ECG device I use). Have you checked what causes yours?

maybe i need a kardia device. Does a kardia state whether its ectopics or not?

Ppiman profile image
Ppiman in reply toBlondie12345

It does. I have recently sold my Kardia as a new device from Wellue that gives a free analysis using AI has come out, which I bought and it works well. With Kardia - an excellent device - you need a £10/month plan to get a sufficiently complete report, whereas with the Wellue one, it is free, using a smart phone and you also can use it for five minutes using chest electrodes (included). On their website, there is a discount compared to Amazon. My delivery took just over a week and comes from China.
