5 years ago I was rushed to hospital with 100 lbs of fuild in my chest, around my lungs, heart, stomach and just rest all over me. I was diagnosed with A Fid. I am on Eliquis, beta blockers, lasix. In 5 years never had another episode. Could have been the fluid?

Hello

Did you really mean to say you had 100lbs of fluid in your body, that's over 7stone, or did you mean 10lbs which would be bad enough? Did they give you any reason why this happened?

I'm afraid that AF has become quite a common condition now. I guess the fluid could have caused your attack - who knows.

How are you feeling?

It sounds like whatever caused that massive fluid build up (i.e. the oedema), might well have caused the AF, perhaps by creating a some kind of distortion or physical pressure on your heart. Apparently when some people’s heart muscle becomes stretched, for whatever reason, it can easily go into AF.

I was told that once AF starts, tablets to stop anti-coagulant tablets for life become a requirement as even a single episode of AF shows there to be an increased chance of stroke.

Did they ever find out what caused the excess fluid to build up?

Steve
