Thuds

I have a pacemaker fitted and recently have been unwell with some kind of virus/infection... still having tests.

I take edoxaban but not beta blockers anymore, the last few nights have sometimes been woken up with a thud in the chest area, does anyone know what this is please ?

Most likely ectopic ( out of place) beats. Very common and generally benign. Any virus infection can affect heart rate and beat. Your pacemaker will keep you going! lol 😁

Pacemaker-- "Thud" -- Wakes you up

Do these things have a user manual 😊

Maybe call whoever put it in and ask what's the story here.

They don't just a check once a year to see if it's still working properly

Not quite true - mine is constantly monitored by an app, others have a home monitor which sends data back to the hospital. If you feel something is amiss you should ring the pacing clinic who will either check or get you to go in within a few days.

Oh ok, I think I'll do that

Mine has no app or home monitor. Just once a year checks.

I do have some kind of monitor at home, I was due a check so I've rung and she moved it to Friday

It does tend vary but 6 monthly checks was more usual. Despite that - you should have a contact number to contact the Pacing Physiologists for any queries.

I asked about a monitor after reading on here about them. They sent me one in the post but I dont think it registers episodes unless HR is above a rate they set as I had one episode they were not aware of

I must have a very basic model as it can only be checked at the clinic.

I have my pacemaker checked in person once a year. If I have a problem like lately if I sleep on left side my pacemaker thumbs so hard I cannot sleep. My doctor had me do an ekg and next had a rep from my pace makers company come in and check me out. She said not to worry just sleep on right side and sending me for an xray to make sure the pm didn't move.

I have a home monitor which sends data to the device clinic, also I have a 6 monthly check, once a year in person and the other 6 months through my home monitor. I’ve never had a thud though. I’m glad to say. I can feel it resynchronising sometimes. They told me it gets rid of arrhythmias.

Hi

Beware that any Pacemaker can cause infection. Immediately fitted or months or years after.

Do get yourself checked out on an urgent appointment.
