anyone heard of long p wave

had my pacemaker in on Friday. Still in hospital with New med trial is bisoprolol, flecainide, amlodipine, xarelto. They say the flecainide is causing long p wave-

I was taken off of flecainide in 2019 , but I thought it was for long qt wave.

On this regiment of meds, no more spiking of heart rate, it’s now in the 70’s. Actually I’m feeling good ! But today We’re talking about node ablation

I’m feeling perplexed and anxious, still out only not quite four weeks since 6th ablation for atrial tachycardia.

The p wave is the small blip before the QRS complex which is missing and an obvious sign that you are in AF . Flecainide does have the abilty to extend th QRS complex. I suspect somebody has crossed wires.

There are some distortions of the P wave which can indicate early signs of developing conditions. I think you need a fuller explanation of what your doctor’s concerns are and why and your treatment options going forward.

thank you, since I couldn’t take Flec and the whole regimen of meds they tried this weekend (after my Friday pacemaker). I had the AV node ablation this afternoon. It’s a done deal.

I think all anti-arrhythmic drugs have the occasional potential to alter the heart in ways that might be unwanted, even dangerous, and this shows on the ECG as delayed or extended timings of the ventricular beat. When this happens, there's a risk of serious issues arising suddenly, but cardiologists know exactly what these timings and risks are so, for me at least, I find myself happy to trust whatever they suggest or prescribe.

Yes if you do a Google search "prolonged p wave", you will get elementary results about this finding.

But as CDreamer replied, best ask your cardiologist/EP.

I had been on Flecainide for a few years, and I was experiencing Ectopic Heartbeats, but since changing from a Cardiologist to an Electrophysiologist who took me off from it, I don’t have Ectopic H/Bits anymore. Coincidence? Don’t know.
