Hi Marychris,

It is hard to say what might be happening and I wouldn’t want to speculate, but it sounds like something may be happening with the heart ( ie palpitations) and the sensation your husband is feeling, may be the heart reverting back to rhythm, as the sensation of feeling like the heart is stopping for a couple of seconds, is a classic feeling of going back into rhythm, though I am purely speculating and might not be that at all, You don’t mention if your husband thinks he is having palpitations before he feels ok, but perhaps he just isn’t feeling them.

it’s a shame you have another month to wait until you get an ecg taken and that might not capture anything if this happens every couple of months, If you have a smart phone, I can only suggest getting a heart rate monitor watch ( and one that takes sn ecg too) that your husband can wear all the time as that could ‘capture’ what might be happening before and after.

Might be hard to diagnose because of the infrequency, Still, ask his doc to put him on a 2 week zio patch or similar for 24/7 ekg monitoring and maybe the episode will be captured. If not, ask to keep repeating, if they are willing. If you guys are sort of high tech, Wellue makes a 24/7 home monitor, which requires wearing a patch and interfacing with some software. One or two of the folks here have one.

On the (few) occasions when I’ve had AF I’ve experienced a strange tightness in my throat which is very hard to define - and it makes me feel very anxious.

I have similar. It is like a sort of constriction in throat and upper chest. I think other people have posted about it too. Just another pesky symptom of afib. I have got used to it.

I have a bit of arrhythmia’s going on. And they can feel like there skipping into my throat and chest. I have it every day in varying degrees. It can feel like it’s missing a beat as well. I’d speak with a doctor for diagnosis and reassurance.

I very often get a tight sort of achy feeling in my throat and up under my jaw when I go into AF. Sometimes in the back of my neck at base of skull too. Rosie

Me too Rosie. Not at the beginning of every AF episode. But occasionally. Had it yesterday before a 21 hour session.😵‍💫

me too. I wonder why it’s there at beginning but I think I notice it less after day one.

AF symptoms are many and varied. I just rest, try to relax or sleep and let the episodes run their course. It is what it is. Damned inconvenient at times as the last episode started just as I was about to go to the tip with a full car. I will try again today!😁🤗

Hi

I hope that he is NOT on Metropolol (Beta-Lok) as it caused 2 pauses x 2 secs during the night).

Changed to Bisoprolol. No more pauses. Even Diltiazem to keep down my heart rate down does not give pauses.

Sometimes Af is caused by too big a meal (the vagal ? artery which is close to the heart.

These sound like ectopic beats, either PVCs or PACs or a variation on a theme. With these, there seems to be a pause but it isn't much of one. The feeling is of a kind of "thump" as the heart resumes normal service and the valve clapping shut owing to the extra blood in the chamber caused by the delay. I can feel these in my throat and elsewhere at times and I get them lots of the time. If your hubby's are very irregular, then it would be hard to catch them. A wonderful device Inow use is called a Well AI ECG monitor. That can record at home an ECG for up to 24 hours and gives you a report listing all the occurrences during that time.

If you live in the UK, getting a Zio monitor or similar - at least quickly - on the NHS is unlikely, so the Wellue (or a Kardia / Apple Watch, etc) can be the only route if funds allow.
