Strange occurrences

After having a ablation last year, nearly a year on I have been fine untill two weeks ago.

I have been having a funny feeling in my chest which like takes away a breath and makes me light headed and gives me a pain in the back of my left shoulder. I did go straight to the hospital and they tested me to see if I had suffered a heart attack. They said I hadn't and just sent me home. This has happened a good few times now.

My question is after a ablation does the feeling of going in to af feel different, as when it happens my stress levels go through the roof.

Hey Peter! Just read your post, I've got a similar problem few days ago. I was talking with some friends then I started to have a weird feeling in my chest, and light headed, I didn't know where I was and I felt tired. It didn't lasts long but long enough to make me feel anxious for 10 minutes.

I've been ablated 5 months ago.

Hi Julien

What you have described, especially the feeling of not knowing where you were for a short while, sounds very much like a TIA (mini stroke). I would bring this experience you've had to the attention of you GP ASAP. What's the harm in just checking it out?

Good morning from France Jean! I just had my annual check up and it seems everything is fine but I'll do additonal tests for sure!

The past weeks I noticed that my resting heartbeat dropped from 85 to 70-73 and this kind of event occures when I didn't sleep very well and I have to stay focus for hours. Maybe maybe we can dress a link between tiredness, work, heartbeat?

I have been to a&e they never seemed concerned about that and I was always aware of where I was just light headed

Be aware the treponin blood test doesn’t show heart attacks until 6 hours after event

Can you contact the EP who did your ablation or ask your GP to get in touch on your behalf so you can get a thorough check up and or reassurance. Best wishes.

Hi Peter, I've had three ablations and have never had any effects afterwards like you've described. A few dizzy spells yes, one episode of dreadful chest pain in the week following an ablation when I was foolish enough to get out of bed late at night and take the electric blanket off (was imagining I could feel the wires). Next morning when I told my GP about the pain he said to me to put it down as an experience, but let him know if it happened again. It never did.

I can understand your episodes causing stress because when these things occur we all silently think 'Is this it'. You say it keeps happening, have you discussed what this could be with your GP or EP?

I'm guessing that you're still taking anticoagulants?

No it was a year ago my ablation so no anticoagulants and yes I have spoken to my surgeon who has suggested a trace again which will pick up on what ever is going on. My Dr sent me straight to a&e they have done blood tests and kept me in for the morning

I follow you all every day and experience these things even the feeling I,m going to die, I didn,t have the ablation because I,ve had six attacks in 2 years but I have the long pauses, skipped beats and the muzzy cloak in my head as if I,m going to faint. I have just eaten and I now have the uncomfortable palpitations and fullness in my chest which will last for an hour. These things seem to happen whether we have the ablation or not.

I agree with you these things do tend to happen whether we have an ablation or not.

Unfortunately, a lot of us on the forum have discovered that we can no longer eat big meals. They'e a sure trigger to upset the heart. We also try to stick to plant based meals. What I do is eat a few mixed nuts, or fruit throughout the day so that I don't need large meals.

Easter Saturday I went for a walk with my daughter and we had lunch out, a steak baguette with chips and salad. I felt really drained and quite ill for the rest of the day, so know just how you feel. So the answer is no big meals and nibble on healthy things in between.

A lot of us have the thoughts, when our hearts are particularly bad that we are going to die, but I'm still here after 14 years of dreadful AF attacks. I've had to fight to keep conscious at times, but to be honest I've never heard of anyone on here dying with it. Please believe me when I say that as soon as I gave up worrying about my AF it improved 95%.

I eat very small meals on a small plate,just cannot do it. I don,t go out much with the family either and if I do I have a children’s portion,it’s not worth the discomfort after. I,m a size 14 and have never been overweight. These palpitations have plagued me for 44 years and could never have more than one course when everybody else have 3 courses. Can,t drink alcohol either. I do like a cake now and again but only a custard slice or a tart.

Cake is a real no, no for me. If I eat any (which I don't now) I'll immediately become aware of my heartbeat. Isn't it strange how we are all so different with what has an effect on us!
