You should not take turmeric as a supplement if you are on an anticoagulant as it can increase bleed risk. Fine in foods occasionally but not as a supplement.

Hi Hanagot.

Here's a copy and paste which may be useful to yourself and others.

Turmeric is a spice commonly used in cooking and traditional medicine. It contains a chemical called curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Some studies have suggested that curcumin may have potential health benefits for people with various conditions, including heart disease, arthritis, and cancer.

However, turmeric supplements or high-dose curcumin may interact with some medications, including blood thinners (anticoagulants) like Pradaxa. This is because curcumin can also act as a blood thinner and increase the risk of bleeding when taken with other blood-thinning medications. Therefore, it's important to talk to your doctor before taking turmeric capsules or any other supplements while on AFIB medications.

Your doctor can evaluate your individual medical history and medications to determine if it's safe for you to take turmeric capsules. They can also advise you on the appropriate dosage and frequency of taking turmeric capsules if they determine it's safe for you.

i now take 5mg Apixaban twice a day after 5 years on Xarelto. This is due to permanent Afib. Throughout this period I have taken Turmeric with black pepper and Ginger supplement Daily which as a PMR sufferer find certainly helps with inflammation.

I take Xeralto , 20 mg , once a day , My doctor told me I could take 1 x 500 mg of tumeric once a day for my arthritis and I have had no problems . Even when I cut myself and had to get stitches . I find the tumeric helped my inflammation that travels around the body . I am on Sotolol for Afib and have had no issues with that either except occasionally I feel like my asthma is aggravated, But settles down .

A few years back, i experimented with low dose Curcumin. I have PAF and take an anticoagulant. I reduced the anti-c by 25%.I could not perceive any benefit from the Curcumin and stopped after 2 months.

I took turmeric capsules once and later in the day saw visible blood in my urine. I am on Eliquis. I had to see a urologist and have various test done to make sure there was no problems that need to be addressed. Everything was fine. Stay away from turmeric capsules if you are on a blood thinner
