Be aware that turmeric can increase the anticoagulant effects of whichever one you're taking and is generally not recommended. I'm on Warfarin and because my tests are never consistent, have my INR tested at least every other week. I took a course of Turmeric capsules recently (just one every morning) in an effort to reduce inflammation in my body and must say I only noted a very slight increase in my results. They didn't appear to do much re inflammation either, but the dose I took was low - too afraid to take more.

We did hear a story on here of someone dying because of overdosing on spices. For a long time I've added a pinch of either cinnamon or ginger to my morning muesli, but then as I've said I'm tested regularly.

Thanks for replying Jean. I was thinking of drinking a tea infusion with turmeric in.

I have absolutely no problem with Tumeric as a food addition, Tumeric tea is my ‘go to’ for many things, especially arthritis. You would need to consume more than 6g/day to increase the anticoagulation affect.

I would be concerned about taking it as a food supplement or taking the active ingredient Curcumin as a food supplement because you cannot guarantee the quality or what’s in the capsule.

I take Tumeric as food most days - I use the root as much as possible but dried for flavouring foods. I’ve never had a problem with the anticoagulants.

Hope that helps

Hi Thinks for replying. I am on an anticoagulant but was only thinking of drinking a turmeric tea.

I've never had a problem, obviously we can only offer our experience.

I'm not on anticoagulants. Like CDreamer I also use turmeric on a daily basis in both food and tea. I too use the root when possible. I also rub a good quality turmeric oil (with a carrier oil) on my arthritic knees.

I was told by the pharmacist that it is contraindicated to take as a supplement when on anticoagulant.

I did call my anticoagulant clinic and they said it was ok to take it in powder form but not tablet as you don’t know exactly how much your taking I said i was thinking of taking 1 teaspoon a day and she said just watch if you start bruising or your gums start to bleed if so just stop I’m on apixaban I want to try turmeric for nerve pain relief but you need to know it can take 4/5 weeks to start to help for pain so I’m starting today
