Hi, I’m constantly having to wipe my nose and eyes and have heard on here that others have this annoying side effect too. Also I now have deafness which I believe stems from my medication.

So ……. What AF medication causes these problems.

i am the same. When I go for my walk I have to blow my nose every 10 minutes or so. I was never like that before starting my medication.

yes Annie, mine seems constant as soon as I get up in the morning. I’ve read others with heart medication have it too. My question is, which drug is to blame. I think Furosemide may be the cause of my deafness but what alternative do we have?

So what is the wet nose aggravator?

hi. I have it too and it started when I started on statins before I was prescribed anything else.

I can’t blame Statins as I’ve not taken them for years due to them causing terrible night cramps. But they can also give you lots of aches and pains. There are many people who feel terrible whilst taking them.

Its good that you only suffer the runny nose.

Bisoprolol started my running nose. Been on it 7 to 8 years now and it doesn't get any better. I'm used to it now.

I’m on 10mg daily dose of Bisoprolol. It may be the cause of my problem but can’t see me being able to reduce that. It counteracts my pacemaker speeding. I’ve been on it for 17 years now. Ever since my TIA.

But the runny nose has become far worse over the last few years and that’s why I questioned Furosemide as that’s a relatively new one for me.

I have a runny nose too though I don’t think it is caused by meds as I had it before I was diagnosed.

I did discover a great trick though, Otrivine Dual Relief! It’s great for drying up a runny nose and although probably not good to use it every day I find it useful when going to the gym/walking etc when having to constantly blow my nose is particularly irritating!

thank you Sunny, I think you are right that Otrivine would help but I’m cautious with taking other chemicals with all those I have now. I just have a tissue constantly on the go, often feel a nose plug would be a great idea.

BISOPROLOL definitely! Since lowering the dose it’s not as bad but it’s still an issue I never had before starting this poison!

Not sure I could lower my dose but is there any alternative to Bisoprolol? I take the original one that I was prescribed by the hospital, Cardicor, I feel it’s stronger than the generic.

I can’t handle any of the meds - I tried VERAPAMIL and it almost killed me with a wide range of symptoms of toxicity. I’ve reduced my dose of BISOPROLOL but still get the weird burning effects in arms and feet and even as I withdraw from it - post cardioversion - I can feel them. I’m only 5 days NSR so who knows what’s going to happen but I’m hoping to go the mini maze route as I can’t stand the meds.

well I wish you well. I rattle with all my tablets but feel lucky they work. I refused an ablation years ago and am doing well with medication and the PM.

The mini maze is a new technique and many on here have benefitted superbly from its treatment. Long May you stay in NSR.

thank you. I’m not sure what PM is but glad to hear you’re doing well. Ablation is not really worth the chance for me as the odds are so low. I’d rather jump into the Mini maze albeit expensive and reclaim some of my QOL and everyday fitness - fingers crossed.

Sorry, my shorthand chat, PM is Pacemaker. I’m on my 2nd one now in the last 13 years, and so glad I have it backing me up.

I was offered an ‘ablate and pace’ which would leave me 100% PM dependent. I was told this would mean my meds could be drastically reduced but I decided against that. I prefer to keep my AF beating heart and back it up with the PM when it falters. I’m not suffering like many with all my drugs, just trying to get an idea as to why my nose and eyes constantly water.

Mini Maze may well bring you back to your desired QOL.

I'll put a different spin on it. Since the first COVID vaccination (I've had five) my nose runs throughout the day and, I've had a cough. It could be that it aggrevated my lungs as I had pulmonary toxicity back in the day, secondary to dronedarone and amiodarone. Blurry vision can be caused by medication, such as amlodipine and ramipril.

thank you john-boy, I’ve had all the Covid injections and also Covid. But my nose ran long before anyone thought of Covid.

Side effects are different for all of us, I’m lucky I don’t have any real issues, I’m just sick of sniffing.

I hope your chest problems have recovered. I turn to my Salbutamol on wheezy days.
