AFib Medication and Anti-Depressants

Since anticoagulants and rhythm medication appear to interact negatively with anti- depressants and anxiety medication, please tell me what medications you have personally found successful without interfering with A-AFib medicine. Just looking at discussing more with my doctor.

Historically beta blockers were used to "steady nerves" by various sports people until deemed an unfair advantage. Often beta blockers ( bisoprolol, nebivolol) are used in conjunction with anti arrhythmics. I have no personal experience. Perhaps the talking therapies are an altenative in the first instance?

Good to hear! Wow- you were able to get in a 12 hour shift. Sounds like you are adjusting well. That’s good!!!

I was on Citolopram but had to come off it because of possible interaction. I have tried to make lifestyle changes and eliminate stress as much as possible and i did a mindfulness course that has help lots. I have good and bad days but when i feel down i talk to my friends or my partner, which i wasn't doing i was just hiding how i felt, but the talking helps.

Big hugs x

Hi I have a lot of experience with this. I was on escitralopram for anxiety which worked really well. I was then told after 4 years on, it can have a negative effect on arythmias and is the worst anti depressant for it and duely switched to sertraline which is supposed to be the drug of choice for people with arythmias. It is something about certain anti depressants lengthen the Q wave length of each contraction which is apparently bad. I had an ECG to check mine and all was fine. I think it is more in older people and max strength. Anyway, I am fine on Sertraline. Apologies if I have used any incorrect terminology, it is just from what I remember. I wish escitralopram wasnt associated with elongation of Q intervals as I found it brilliant for anxiety. Good luck

Oh wow!!! My doctor took me off of Setraline!! Said major bleeding risk with anticoagulant!! Geesh. I think it would work better but said it is too risky.

I've been on Mirtazapine for a while with Warfarin and Sotalol with no apparent problems. One advantage of Mirtazapine is that it has helped with the insomnia I experienced before taking it.

I am on Coumadin and my doctor but me on sertraline and I have no bleeding problems. And the wonderful thing is it’s been almost 2 months and my anxiety has decrease tremendously and no PAF episodes.
