at last saw a cardiologist today and after some consultation and noting the results of the echocardiogram and cat scan, she explained that the aortic stenosis is moderate to severe and wants to clarify it more clearly, also have an aneurysm measuring 4.8, usually operated on at 5.5. Plus for good measure I have a bi- Cuspid aorta they usually are tri-cuspid.

Now waiting for appointment for a camera down the throat to examine the aorta also some lung function tests.

Nice to know that I am not in immediate danger, but given strict instructions that if any chest pains occur, ring for an ambulance and go to A@E.

Apparently the bi-cuspid abnormality is genetic, and must inform my children.

Last year was told I have a heart shaped womb, marvellous to get to 82 and discover I have lived this long , but was never informed.

Any helpful suggestions or remarks will be appreciated.

My brother-in-law has similar. His aortic arch (the "aneurysm") has stayed the same for years, as yours might likely do. Fingers crossed is the way!

No to suggestions but sorry about the bad news. When my husband was found to have two large abdominal aortic aneurysms he was also told they were inoperable. The consultant added that she had had a patient with an inoperable 10cm aneurysm and he had eventually died of something else. Hopefully you have options otherwise you wouldn’t be having more tests - no fun I know. Best wishes and good luck x

Thank you for your reply, I came home feeling a bit disheartened. As I was expecting her to tell me they could operate, however now having more tests.

My father ,sister died of aneurysms, two brothers one had a repair done the other like me is being checked.

Seems every time I get another bit of unexpected news things get worse.

Not looking forward to the camera down the throat.
