Its a devil of a condition and attacks us in many different ways. However we survive and find a way to live with it or alongside it and hopefully, apart from nasty afib events, we can often still thrive. Anxiety is another demon which likes to trip us up alongside afib. However we prevail. Best wishes.

As a fairly newly-diagnosed AF sufferer, I highly recommend the YouTube videos by Dr Sanjay Gupta of York Cardiology. I think you'll find most fears associated with heart health and conditions will be greatly alleviated and many in fact will be totally put to rest. He's a very knowledgeable UK Consultant Heart Specialist who wants to take the anxiety, stress and fear out of such heart conditions. I personally would prefer to pay him for a consult than any Cardio I've yet consulted with, who simply keep pushing out the same medications year after year, put people on statins for life etc etc etc. His YT videos are totally free and provide much help and comfort.

It's very challenging isn't it? I developed anxiety as a result and at least half the challenge is the anxiety. With practise and knowledge from the forum however I have learned to manage better and I'm sure you will too. I've always felt supported here.

I found that it was the shared experiences on this forum that removed my anxiety. I learned so much and I now just ride out the episodes without the stress. AF doesn't kill you but I'm sure the anxiety is a big part of bringing on further health issues. And breathe! 🤗😊

yes it’s the anxiety of not knowing what is going to happen ! And when .When I’m experiencing an episode with no real symptoms other than my heart jumping all over ! It’s like my whole brain is concentrated on my heart rhythms I’m sure it makes it worse .

What usually happens is that suddenly it stops and you go back into NSR! Worrying about it often makes you feel your heart more and prolongs the episode. If possible you need to carry on as normal . If episodes start mainly in the evening after dinner or when you are sleeping look at your eating patterns . Try to distract yourself with a good book or watching tv and sleep when it's time to sleep. This can be difficult if you need to wee a lot ( I find this is worse at the beginning of an episode but gradually wears off allowing me to sleep fitfully). If your episodes occur during the day try to go about usual tasks slowly. I have found that a bit of vigourous vacuuming will make me revert to NSR!

Most of mine happen around late evening so I try to sleep through them. It's a pest not knowing when they are coming though.

Ditto! This forum has been an enormous help to me and I am far less anxious about my afib now. It is more of a nuisance.
