Do have a merry one folk but stay off the booze and eat sparingly. You know it makes sense. The days when Christmas afternoon was spent laying in front of the fire groaning with a huge distended stomach are long gone.

Just about to prep the veg as Turkey coming to room temperaure before the great Aga relay commences . Musical chairs any body?

Wishing you all NSR and peace.

Bob

Have a good one Bob. I’m pacing myself food wise and no longer drink. It all makes sense as I don’t want a disco in my chest. Thank you for the great insight and info you provide.

Merry Christmas Bob and one and all ! Good wishes to you and your family for 2023!

Yes, the days of over eating and drinking at Christmas have long gone for me! I hate the bloated feeling. I'll just enjoy the grandchildren and be roped into board games !

Happy Christmas Bob.

Many moons have passed since Birmingham conference and we are still here to tell the tale.

Keep well.

Just reminder of our wild friends outside who don't have anybody to cook them dinner. During last week's cold snap we had a total of six robins around our feeder array. These normally highly territorial birds were in pairs and patiently waited their turn sitting in the yew tree or the hedge. The tits (blue, great and coal) shared the time with the squirrels in the two squirrel cafes we have and dunnocks, sparrows and others alternated with the robins whilst several blackbirds used the ground stations. Strangely so close to the house we had goldfinches as well as chaffinches on the new niger feeder although the bullfinches prefer the quiet of the secret garden where also feed the local pheasants.

How lovely to have all those different feeding areas. We feed the birds in the front and back gardens and pheasants like you. It's a joy to see them. Keep up the good work and have a good 2023.🤗

Merry Christmas Bob, oh how I miss my Aga, don’t have one in this house, there is something very homely and special. Enjoy your ‘feast’. 🎅🏻🌲🎅🏻🌲

thanks Bob for the reminder, did exactly that, very mindful about how much Turkey and Ham I ate and only drank a couple of zero beers and ate slowly. It’s the pudding and my wife’s Tiramisu which I made sure I only ate a mouthful of each! Had a great day with the family. I hope all managed to forget about AF as much as possible!

Wise words as we've come to expect from you Bob, but too late for me! Ate and drank way too much, lay in bed listening to the jazz drummer in my chest for hours!

Ok this morning, I'm relieved to say. But boxing day tradition is to watch my club play in the local rugby derby that I watched my dad play in then played in myself for many years, then have a few beers with the lads. If I had the strength of character I'd enjoy the day whilst staying on soft drinks, but I'm weak - I absolutely love the craic and can't imagine life without it.

What to do? Well my strategy, and I know this is a cop-out, is to start later than everyone else, stay out of rounds, go slowly and finish early. No shots or spirits.

I know alcohol is a very common trigger for AF and I'm not suggesting anyone else have such a cavalier attitude. In my case I have struggled with PTSD and the best possible therapy is the endorphin release of a few hours of laughter with my lifelong pals.

So far, doing so has never triggered AF for me, although it does increase my ectopics burden for a few hours. As it stands I feel the benefit outweighs the risk, but it may not always be so and one day I may find myself having to grow up quickly.

My son-in-law drinks non-alcoholic beer and cider because he has to but finds it acceptable so if you are genuinely drinking for the social enjoyment that’s the way to go.

so true, yesterday first time i probably had too much to eat, yep ,had a three hour episode with heart beat going over 115+, i am now convinced AF has a link to the gut.........on the upside...no booze and for a "drinker" Christmas day can be tricky.......exactly 12 months without alcohol. Happy New Year to all.✌️

Hope your day was lovely Bob! Paced myself nicely yesterday I think and all culinary activities went down well. Left over day today - Bliss!

We ate alone thanks to covid, but did manage to take a meal around to two nearby elderly friends, also suffering with the lurgy, so safe from our giving it to them. But we did all eat well and to excess against your advice, and drank very merrily indeed, ending the day watching The Lime Street Golem. What a feast of a film. Oh, and thanks to the magic of the digital world we were able to watch our 4-year-old grandson dressed up as Postman Pat, too. Such fun.

A very Happy New Year to you and to all on this wonderful forum, with especial thanks to those who help make it all happen!

Thanks for all the good wishes. had a great day apart from attacking a finger with the carving knife. Sods law we were out of dressings so quite messy for a while. Shows I 'm good at knife sharpening as I barely touched it. lol 😁 Spent the evening playing "Who am I " and "Articulate" with family. Now repeat (not the knife bit.)

Eat sparingly and Christmas in the same sentence. Does not compute!😂😂😂

I hope you took your advice as well. I had a little red wine with dinner. Which I am reading is ok if it’s just a little. Here is a Bible joke: if you all don’t mind. The apostle Paul told Timothy to have a little wine for his frequent cases of sickness. Do you know why he said a “Little wine”? Ready for the corny answer? It was Paul bottle, (he really didn’t want to share).

Hope you had a very enjoyable Christmas (sorry about the finger). All the best for 2023 & thank you for always being there with advice when needed.

We were hosting and as usual I am never hungry when I sit down so I had a quiet heart. Hope your finger has recovered. Thank you for everything, Bob.
