Covid Treatment besides antivirals?

My husband tested positive for covid this morning and is on an antiviral medication. I emailed my EP and asked if I would be able to take an antiviral if I should catch it from my husband. Because my medications include Xarelto, Atorvastatin and Digoxin , he said he would not want me on an antiviral and recommended that I should call his office if I test positive and they'll take it from there. I'm wondering if anyone has been given any other type of treatment for Covid because of an interaction with these or with any other medications.

Here in UK the vaccination program for us a risk patients meant that any covid infection was relatively mild. All my family caught it in early October and it was no worse than a mild bout of flu. so no need for any treatment. In fact my youngest son (30 ) continued working as a welder throughout.

Thanks, Bob. Helpful response as always. I'm up to date on all my boosters and flu vaccine so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that if I get covid, it'll be a mild case.

I did not take anything when I had Covid last year. I recently asked about the flu shot and was surprised to be told if my heart was NSR he would not want me to get it but I was OK to get it because I had not yet had my second cardioversion. I would have thought they wanted us not to get any sicker than possible. I had the feeling if your heart is in rhythm they want to take no chances on anything changing that. Good to see what you were told because I just went on digoxin yesterday following the failure of my cardioversion. Best of luck fingers crossed that you do not get sick and if you do it is a very light one. When I had it while it was not pleasant obviously, it was similar to a light case of the flu. I did not sense of smell or taste.

I investigated the various antivirals and a couple interacted with Apixaban. I also found out at the time that here in the UK the antivirals aren't distributed by the GP but by a different organisation and aren't given as prophylactics. I was intending to travel and was worried about contracting COVID because of AF and having recently undergone extensive courses of cancer treatment. The doctor I spoke to at the COVID centre was apologetic but said they weren't allowed to prescribe in case. In the event I caught COVID anyway, and very mildly too, I was in bed for a day and then a few days feeling washed out. I am suffering much more at the moment from a coughing bug that has done the rounds of my family!

Why not visit your local drugstore as you normally would for a flu or cold? I took vitamin C, D, zinc, quercetin, oil of oregano. You can even check with your pharmacist for your particular symptoms. I needed a nasal rinse which I already had on hand for my post nasal drip and subsequent coughs.

I'm on day 7 with covid. Too ill to go anywhere. Nausea, bloating, cough, fatigue and no sense of taste.

Hopefully I'll be OK by Saturday so I can visit the kids for Christmas otherwise I'll have to spend the weekend alone. :(

It sounds like you're having a rough time with covid. We're trying to juggle and reschedule Christmas plans with our family hoping my husband will be better by the weekend. I hope you improve by Saturday.

Large amounts of Vitamin C can help.

I've been taking vitamin C effervescent tabs every day for months. Seems I've waisted my time with them.

Sorry I didn't get to reply before this. You haven't wasted your time with them. They will have been doing a lot to keep you fitter, without you really noticing. Most of the animal kingdom can make their own Vit C, and make far more when they are unwell, including when they have a virus. We have lost the ability to make it, so have to get it from food or supplements. We too use far more when we are unwell, so taking one every two or so hours for two days, should make you feel a lot better very soon, and should protect you from the worst of covid. You can then reduce to say three a day (spaced out, as it only stays in the body for about 6 hours) until you feel better.

Incidentally, much of the cost is in the 'effervescence', which may make it more palatable, but doesn't increase it's effectiveness, as far as I know. If you can swallow a large tablet (or you can get 500mg ones, and take two at a time), then a health food shop should be able to sell you 1grm tablets much more cheaply than the ones you are using.

Hi everyone, just a moan as I tested positive yesterday with covid, I feel terrible, breathing is a little harder, headaches, BPM as low as 42 today, lots of ectopic beats, more then norm, no AF thank goodness, feel sick all the time, no sense of smell or taste, feel totally sorry for myself and waiting for my second ablation. Christmas cnld at sons. We shielded so much over the 2 years and was gutted we both got it. On another note, I wish you all a happy Christmas and new year 🥰
