For those on the forum who are afraid of having an ablation or worry about the aftermath, this is just a quicky to note my experience on Monday. After a very bad a-fib episode in early October, after being nearly a-fib free for eight months, I went in for my third ablation. Apparently all previously ablated veins held from last time, except for one non-isolated one that grew around its scar tissue that was causing the problem. The procedure lasted two hours, but there was much waiting in pre-op and post-op, then waiting for a hospital bed. I had to lay flat for 6 hours after the procedure, but I spent my time watching TV to take my mind off it. I was home the next day by noon. The incisions at the groin gave me no problem whatsoever and are already healing nicely. I have no pressure or pain in chest. I can’t believe how nervous and anxious I was beforehand, because I feel perfectly normal now, as though I never had a heart procedure. I hope my little story helps someone out there.
Third ablation.: For those on the forum... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Third ablation.
Thanks I'm waiting on an appointment with ep to discuss ablation. Since diagnosis in September it's been a whirlwind. First biosoprosol, then diltaziam now dronedarone. Your kind of posts help to relieve folk like me. I like your name I've been patiently staring out window for the forecast snow all day.
Great news and thank you for sharing! Now take it easy and watch Christmas films or read etc perfect excuse!
well done. What ablation was it ? Rf or cryo ? I’m having a 2md in 2023 hopefully Rf this time the ep said
Thankyou so much ! I am awaiting my first and so nervous as I have read of so many bad experiences.
It seems that most post their bad experiences here asking for answers and solutions, and rightly so. I'm sure the majority of those having procedures have a good outcome and feel there's no need to share it on the forum. I just thought my good experience might help someone who was as nervous as I was beforehand. Wishing you well kkatz, that everything goes as smoothly as mine did.
So glad you’re feeling good afterwards.
I felt really groggy after my first because of the GA but fine after my second and third. I have to have a fourth one after Xmas under GA and feel nervous for some reason
Well, I’ve always found the prospect of an ablation alarming, but now I’ve got a triple bypass booked for Friday an ablation sounds like positively good fun. It’s all relative, I guess.
I've been following your posts Samazeuilh2, hoping you're progressing along to a good outcome. Your triple bypass tomorrow might very well change your life around for the better. I'll be thinking of you and hoping for an excellent outcome!
it’s very thoughtful of you and very much appreciated. It should be about 1.00-2.00 pm tomorrow and take 3-4 hours. I’m “nil by mouth” after midnight so they are getting me an extra meal now. I can’t say I’m looking forward to it (that’s the op not the meal). They’ve told me if all goes well it should fix the problem. The time immediately after the operation can be quite tough, apparently. On the most optimistic scenario I could be out in about six days, but it could be longer. I’m glad your ablation went well and hopefully it will sort out the AF.
Well done. I've got my third on 22 December. So pleased it went well for you 🌸
That's great! I have been dithering about whether or not to have a second ablation as I still have af . Let us know how it goes please? Best wishes.
Oh I was only thinking about you yesterday Snowgirl and wondering how you were doing! What a relief it went well and that the one rogue vein was discovered. May all be well now!
Thanks so much, Singwell -- so good to hear from you! I too was wondering about you and how your speech went in Tallinn, what type of stockings you wore (a dilemma at the time!), etc.
Unfortunately it seems that many of us have been there as well. I had two in my first month of diagnosis. Except with a problem with amiodarone I will say that the ablation was not a big deal. The staff does such a great job prepping you and keeping you occupied you don’t think about it they just sweep you through in such a great way and next thing you know you are feeling better. I did not suffer through either one of the first two. I had my third procedure in April it was tougher. However I will say again I was swept through everything thanks to staff. Recovery was tough this time but nothing tragic. I had my choice of medication‘s and they made sure I did not hurt. Unfortunately that one did not work. I just had a cardioversion and the funny thing is that is what I was afraid of not ablations. Again spoiled by staff and I woke up with a smile. I think most of us when we feel so bad nothing else can seem hard to face. I am about to go in on the 20th and it was scary to me because it is medication where they must keep me and ICU and monitor me. That will include an EKG every two hours for a minimum of three days they have to get five doses into me before they can consider sending me home. As I lay here and know that right now to try to even get off the bed is miserable let alone do anything normal I will tell you I can’t think of anything that I’ve had done so far that is that bad if it is going to mean quality of life again.
it amazes me how many people have this how awful so many people feel on a daily basis. I have always said to myself be kind when people did not seem happy or pleasant and now I realize how many could be living with a fib etc. just like me feeling so lousy on a daily basis. It is not really a fib as such acting up right now it is atypical flutter. It is coming from the left side of my atria. I would take another ablation the doctor is not thrilled about doing one because of scarring and also the fact that atypical flutter is hard to map. I like the fact that my new doctor does not want to do surgery just for the sake of doing it he does not want my scarring especially if it will not accomplish anything. One step at a time. It’s obvious they are working daily trying to get answers let’s hope it’s sooner than later.
So sorry for your story, DawnTX. What meds will you be taking for the 3-day hospital monitoring? I had to do the same when I went on Dofetilide (Tykisyn --not sure of spelling).
