it takes a lot of guts for all of us to make the decision right for us for our own health.
saulger has decided on a version of the Wolf mini maze carried out in Japan and has flown out there and spent the last few days in isolation ready for his surgery tomorrow.
Saul, you provide some much support to others, we wish you every success now it’s your turn 💕

Good luck Saul! I’m wondering if he has been advised of what support he will have once he goes back to his homeland? In the event of any issues post procedure will his own cardiologist/EP be able to help him given that there are only 2 Drs in the world that perform this procedure? I asked this question on the WMM Facebook page and the admin did not respond to me?
I can’t speak for the WMM but I did have a mini maze which is rare in the U.K. My surgeon and EP worked in parallel and the GP was the conduit, I am now back under my local EP.
thank you. So much easier when all Drs are located in the same country. I’m based in Australia and if I were to have the procedure it would be in Japan. Not sure how this would work if I were to have any post procedural issues. Perhaps saulger can advise as I believe he is based in Greece. Surely anyone contemplating the procedure and is having to travel outside of their country to have it would be asking that question? I so want to rid myself from this beast and the WMM sounds promising but it’s this concern that is stopping me from taking the next step.
I am Scotland and EP was England, two different health services. I was originally booked with Dr Wolf and I was going to stay in Houston for a month where I would be under Dr Wolf’s care - as I was persistent it gave it long enough to see if I would need cardioverted. I would then have been passed back to my Scottish EP but with Dr Wolf available online/phone.
hi Aqua, I am the admin for the WMM group and do not remember seeing your question. I’m sorry. After the WMM you would follow up with your own EP at home. Dr Wolf is always available and does time scheduled telephone conferences after the procedure with all of his post op patients. He usually implants a loop recorder so he can follow progress 24/7 of what your heart is doing. He is always available to speak with your Ep if there is an issue. With Saul going to Greece. Dr Ohtsuka keeps his patients in the hospital for 7 days after the procedure and then requires his patients to remain in Tokyo for at least two weeks after when most complications would arise. Saul will also follow up with his own Dr at home.
thank you for your reply! Apologies, what I meant was I sent an anonymous post however it had to go through admin for approval prior to it being posted on the WMM Facebook page. I’m so excited to see saulger looking very happy and well post procedure and impressed that his surgeon actually commented on the Facebook page. I am looking forward to Saul providing us with his updates when he’s up to it and I may well take the plunge and go for it!
pS I am sure there are two mini maze surgeons in Australia. Is there a hospital St George in Sydney? Something like that. I’ll see if I can find in my research.
yes there is and would you believe it’s a 15 minute drive from where I live? I don’t know of any surgeons there that do the mini maze though? Thanks in advance for any info you can pass on to me.
I'm still so upset I had to cancel mine at Houston Methodist because of their communistic covid protocols! Hopefully some day they will allow admissions when you can actually trust what they shove in your body while awake and under. GL Saul and to all that took the pcr tests and trusted the hospital administration to do no harm.
Good luck Saul - I hope it all goes well. Please keep us posted. I for one am very keen to know as I’m considering this route myself. I hope you’re comfortable and have someone to help you after the surgery. Best wishes.
So happy for Saul to be free of afib and meds. Best decision I ever made after three failed ablations and medications that were slowly killing me. Wolf mini maze going on 5 years now. No afib, no meds, no blood thinner and no worry of a stroke. Life is good as I know it is for you as well MummyLuv after your procedure. I’m so happy more Drs are getting on the bandwagon doing more surgical procedures to treat afib for my friends in the UK.
He has not trained anyone in Australia Agua 1. Dr Ohtsuka in Japan was trained by Dr Wolf in 2008 and has done over 2000 mini maze as well. It is very affordable to have this procedure in Japan and many from the states and elsewhere are going to him who cannot get to Houston for whatever reason. I can help anyone get in touch with Dr Ohtsuka if they are interested. There are two cardiac surgeons in Australia however who do a convergent procedure. It is also a surgical mini maze done a bit differently and uses a catheter ablation as part of the procedure. It has great results as well. This is very similar to the procedure Mummy Luv had in the UK and she is doing splendidly. His name is Dr Reese Davies, at Westmead hospital in Sydney. There is also a Dr in Melbourne I believe but I do not know his name and you would have to research.
I’m so excited for Saul. May you have an easy time of it and your recovery goes well. I had my mini maze with Dr Wolf in Houston June of this year and it couldn’t have been better. I’m still in blanking period but have had no AFib or flutter since the surgery and I was having episodes every 5 days prior. No blood thinner and no meds. I am feeling good and have my energy back. I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I trust Dr Wolf and the WMM 1000% and Houston Methodist is the best hospital ever. I am back under my EPs care, but comfort knowing Dr Wolf is only a phone call away and has every beat of my heart at his disposal.
