hi there, it’s not abnormal to need a cardioversion to get back into sinus rhythm. The surgeon may not do it straight away after flipping to afib as the heart needs to heal a little to form lesions then your son will have more success in holding NSR.
I’ve had 3 ablations, the last one included mini maze. I only experienced a couple of weeks of arrhythmia immediately after that one, and only a few bouts since, normally when I’m overtired, ill or stressed.
On the whole I feel ‘normal’
My pacemaker records a lot of short bursts of af that I’m not aware of.
I’m sorry I can’t answer your question because your son will be different, but if he takes care of himself I’d say he stands a good chance x
