Had another call from a very switched on AF nurse, appointment on the way. She was aghast at GP saying stop meds.Pointed out that at clinic I will have ecg etc to see if it is safe to taper off. She said, its on your discharge letter to continue on meds until see here and that Apixaban indefinetly,he obviously did not read it.
So we got somewhere in the end. Now to find a lump of wood to chastise GP with lol!
THANK YOU ALL AGAIN xxx

Glad itβs sorted, probably go for balsa wood for gps punishment unless a trip to court is on your Christmas list, you could alway say you were demonstrating your model plane and it accidentally came into contact with said GP
I'd be inclined to give the GP a Paddington Bear Stare! Should do the trick & no trip to court! π€£π
You could also contact the Practise manager and express your concerns over what happened as well as your loss in confidence with that particular GP. Compliment the nurse though!
Yes indeed,it was on here about a research study done by Birmingham Uni that AF people on ACs should continue indefinetly, even if AF has been stopped by some means. This is because it may return at any time or be assymptomatic and we would then be unprotected! X
Never trust a smiling GP.......... in fact, never trust a GP full stop, when it comes to cardiac stuff. An on the ball AF nurse there narrows the choice unless there's someone new?
And hardly any delay fir treatment! I'm coming back as a dog.....though my poor pet owner won't appreciate the cost of treatment or insurance fees! π€£
I think you can expand that to other areas of the anatomy. I was walking around for ages with a form for a routine Dexa scan (every two years). I eventually got around to it and went. The radiologist's report was given to me while I waited, and as I can read English, I could see there was an overall improvement in my bone density. To my surprise I received a call from a doctor I had never seen from the practice I attend (my usual GP was on leave) telling me it was looking fine and I should go again in a year. The radiologist's report clearly says TWO years. It just confirms that they do not read reports and notes, and in this instance there was no need for her even to phone me !
Great news that you are back on track and I'm pleased you have got things sorted. Shame on your GP. The last one I saw looked through my medical records and asked me what I'm taking for headaches (which are not caused by afib). I said a couple of paracetamol see them off. No he said - take ibuprofen, it's more effective ? I explained that I have afib and take an anticoagulant (he knew this) so it might not be the best of idea's. Doctor Sherlock Holmes then started tapping away on his computer and announced 'no no you mustn't take ibuprofen - stick with paracetamol.
Give me strength. When you have finished with that lump of wood send it to me by first class recorded delivery please Wil π₯΄
Lol,I will post a photo of the brilliant gift my daughter in law made for my birthday few weeks back. Dawns Lumper! Im upstairs reading in bed( The bullet that missed....R. Osman) Honestly,I think we would all be better off registering with a Vet! Our dog and cats were well served, had every faith in them.
Hurrah! π₯³ As GPS are an endangered species and difficult to see at the best of times perhaps a gentle bop on the head with a balloon might be less scary for this shy species . Xx
What a good idea Lily. We could all chip in and open a GP reserve - you know a bit like Joy Adamson with that lion in Born Free. The GP's would be allowed to thrive and get used to human contact again. Once trained they could be returned to the wild (their surgeries for example) and allowed to live a normal life as possible.
What a great idea Wil. We could call it the David Attenborough GP reserve - he already has a wildlife reserve. He could do a documentary for us. Remember the time that gorilla ran at him in the wild ? Well something like that with a GP running towards him.
Paul (I'm totally off thread and will shut up now) bounce π
Just shows you can never rely on your Dr and need to double check all he or she says. Mine used to simply precribe stuff clearly contraindicated with drugs already being taken and when I pointed this out he said it was just pharmaceutical companies being over-cautious! I want them to act on research when it endangers my health, or even my life!
In general, I think GPs do their job well and I trust them a great deal, especially given the difficult current situation. I think I would keep clear of officialdom.
Iv only ever had one worrying time with the GP. After my first ablation I needed a not fit for work note, he asked me what a ablation was.? So I explained the whole procedure to him and why it was carried out and he looked totally confused !
He turned to me and said ohhhh you mean youβve had a stent fitted.? I said no not at all. He then looked at the computer for 2 minutes reading about it, pulled a weird face and printed me a note off.
I remember thinking to myself wow this AFIB ablation procedure must really really rare if the gp didnβt know what it was.?
when I saw a different GP after my second ablation she knew exactly what Iβd had done and why.π
I would trust a specialist nurse MORE than my GP these days. It took 10 days and a 2nd letter from a diabetic specialist nurse to sort out insulin for my wife, she was shocked that not one GP had actioned her letter! It's gotten really bad now!
