Tooth extraction fiasco

Firstly I would like to thank everyone who replied to my query about adreniline in the injections and whether one needs to come off anticoagulants for extraction of wisdom teeth. However the following sequence of events which took place in hospital yesterday may amuse you:

Appointment 1 Me: I usually have adreniline free injections, Dentist 1: Oh no I always use injections with adreniline no problem. Keep taking your anticoagulant See you in 4 weeks.

Appointment 2 . I hope you stopped taking your anticoagulants, No? Oh dear, do you want to proceed? Just check in A&E if your mouth keeps filling with blood. Of course we dont use adreniline in injections if you have AF. Oh that other dentist has just started with us he is from another health authority.

I had the tooth out no problems at all no bleeding after leaving the hospital. Moral? Life's a lottery Just hope you're going to be lucky.

After just a few months with A Fib, I’ve come to the conclusion that mixed messages are the most irritating thing!

Blimey. That's awful. It's totally your perogative to ask for no adrenaline. And that stuff about the anticoagulants is ridiculous. I'd be writing to the dental health trust that runs this practice and complaining. They'll have a procedure that kicks in and will have to look into it. Takes a bit if effort but it's the only way to make changes. Glad you're OK though - that’s the main thing!

I’d say that’s unbelievable but from my own experience I know it isn’t! Glad alls well.

Experience counts in medicine and dentistry with art and science mixed in. I suspect each was right based on their own experience. I’m glad it all worked well for you.

I have two back teeth extractions at some point which require the gum to be cut. I’m not looking forward to it having had nearly four hours in the chair once thanks to a root-filled tooth extraction.

That's crazy. I always have the non adrenaline injections; had a root canal done just 3 weeks ago.

Ha Ha!! Love this!! 😀

people wonder why a lot of us don’t trust drs of any kind. i don’t care if he was new he needed to stop, listen and learn that you were not his typical patient. Do you all remember years ago that they thought if you had Afib and had dental work don’t you needed to be on a very high dose of an anti biotic? that was rubbish as it turns out. All that did was kill off the good microbiome and make people more sick. The anti biotic I had to take made me want to vomit at the high dose they prescribed. I had all I could do not to vomit on the dentist. i avoided going which was a mistake also. I question everything they tell me these days.

I did not know about adrenaline and atrial fibrillation until now and my dentist has never mentioned giving me an adrenaline free injection.

I did have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation which has now become persistent. I am presently undergoing root canal treatment. Should I ask my dentist about this or is it different if your heart is in permanent arrythmia.

My dentist has always given me adrenaline free injections even before my heart went into permanent AF. If you dont get increased AF after an injection with adrenaline maybe there is no need to worry about it. I expect the body produces it in scary situations like the dentist anyway.

hi

The hospital senior dentist said everyone gets the same.

But I'm having problems ever since. Second a change in antibiotics. Still sore and I had 2 filling but 1 holey and inflamed before she started.

What do they use instead?

You didnt stop your anti-co.agulant?

I didnt stop my anticoagulant and had no problems with bleeding. I did have a suture in the gum but I think that may be normal. I dont know.

Hi

Thanx.

The only. time I had sutures were in wisdom tooth extraction.

I was young lass then in 20s and no AF. I managed to put out the stitches with a chop stick Ha Ha. Those were the days. Luckily the stitches were ready to come out!

cheers JOY

I disagree , I’m

On 20 mg RIVAROXABAN . 20 mg .

For tooth extractions, gum surgery , colonoscopies , any surgery involving cutting skin tissue , my HAEMATOLOGIST (a leading London Professor ) , Gives me a ‘bridging plan ‘. When to stop , start blood thinners , depending on what time I take my dose .

varying from 1-2/3 days before. Private dental surgeon insists on it . Dermatology surgeon cutting a small biopsy , and small tumour plus plastic surgeon ALL insist on it . Sometimes some people not on blood thinners have clots after tooth extraction. Heavy bleeding anyway . Why take a chance of a rush to A and E ? Better to get advise from own blood specialist ( not the individual dentist etc) my G P refuses to advise on Heamatologist speciality . Smart of her . It is good to know what to do if you cut yourself to not panic go to A and E . I stepped on prongs of 3 prong plug , big hole bled like tap . I googled it . ICE ICE COMPRESSION AND Vaseline . , 4 hours it stopped . If not gushing no panic .
