Thanks for posting! What a guy, this Dr Gupta!

Here something I posted in High BP forum, 20 days ago:

"When I was about 20 years younger (70 now), in one occasion I measured my BP and it was 160/100. I measured it because I had problems walking, had to go from one door handle to the other, trying not to fall down. For that reason I measured the BP and had the reading mentioned.

Now, at the age of 70, when I measure 160/100, I feel perfectly fine and have no problems at all! Can there be a better proof that with the increase of age, we actually need increased BP...? Hope it helps someone, with the worries about increased BP..."

Yes, I like your thinking! I have just posted on this Forum (no doubt you will see it tomorrow) a similar question asking if higher BP is better for avoiding blood clots in the heart arising from an AF episode if you are not taking anticoagulants or even if you are.

I think I need a tad more business stress and more salt!!

The mechanism of forming a blood clots in AF patients is poorly understood by the medicine. But, in the first place, I would question the 5 time larger danger in people with AF. It is hard to prove it, like it is hard to prove that increased BP leads to "silent killing of the patient". If you ask me, the silent killing is achieved in the other way - via the medication for reduction of "high BP". If the body needs increased BP with the aging, than the medications for reduction of BP lead to the reduction of blood flow-rate, leading to insufficient supply of body organs with the blood. Many patients have reported dizziness when on BP medication, showing that the brain is without enough blood. You can imagine long term consequences...

Yes totally agree Nesko on x5 query and the rest. I would add provided you are doing as much as you can on best Lifestyle choices (and assuming no comorbidities) then the likelihood is your higher than average BP or cholesterol is what your body needs eg I have had cholesterol around 7 for 20+ years and 8 years ago (re AF) had arteries checked and all clear.

An Interesting video javo and one I can relate to. My Doc advised me to take medication because my BP was higher than it should be, and as I've always had good BP I asked if I could have a 24hr monitor first which she agreed to, it came back at 133/55, it wasn't BP meds I needed it was anxiety that was causing the problem which she addressed . In my case BP meds would have been wrongly prescribed.

Thank you. This is something that has plagued me all my adult life. In my 30's when I was an effective marathon runner. An even better half marathon runner and long distance cyclist my blood pressure was 140 over 90. When I climbed the greasy pole at work and key to exec toilet and private medical insurance. At my first annual check set what has became a well trod path. First listening to my heart, I was congratulated on my slow powerful beat. When it came to blood pressure, the brows furrowed, the machine was tapped like some ancient barometer. Reading retested more furrowed brows. Move on 40 years, had it tested recently. Same reaction that has followed me since the first occasion. Furrowed brows machine given the confirmatory tap. Hmm! looks a bit high. I still exercise most days. Though no longer run or cycle extreme distances. Eat a diet that would make a Canary weep with joy. My Mother who had high blood pressure died at 98. My sister who, yes you've guessed it, at nearing 80 runs or cycles every day. So I go with the great Dr Gupta it's a number. My weight, lifestyle couldn't be more modified. So what do I do to meet an arbitrary figure. Nothing. Just carry on with what appears to be a normal number for me.

That's the way! If you feel and function well with slightly increased BP (at 150/100, the increase of boath values is only 25%, compared to 120/80, meaning not significant at all !!!), who is right to tell you that this BP is killing you softly, lol!? The best way is: "Frighten them to death, than sell them whatever you want!" Like it was with f**king jabs!
