An AF blip

jedimasterlincoln profile image

First one since April. No work involved, putting the kids to bed after cooking housework and baths. I was bending down to turn off a lamp at the plug and when I stood up my HR was 150 and erratic.

It felt it was quite intense compared to last time. No other real trigger than the bending down, though I did have my covid jab/flu jab last week.

I took my pills at 8:30 and by 2am I'd gone back to NSR. HR now down in the 50s not 150 which is nice!

Ugh Jedi, I’m sorry :( Very glad your pills converted you, though, no hospital trips or cardioversion this time. Really hope it’s just a one off blip. I think it can happen after vaccines, can’t it? It always makes me think how much more of a trigger the actual virus would be if I caught it.

I find bending down is a big old trigger for me sometimes. I can go for ages where it’s fine, but then have phases where bending forwards is a problem. So much so I’ve bought a grabber stick for those times! (It was either that or nick my nan’s one!)

Hope you stay well now :) Jane x

G'day Jedi ..... back in the day January 2010, my AF mugged me after a period of bending over. It has also triggered an AF event on a couple of occasions in recent years also bending over. Bending may well aggravate/ inflame the Vagal Nerve.

Sorry to hear this news Jed what an absolute nuisance this AF is (I've put that politely). There you are minding your own business and wham it strikes from nowhere. I really hope this is just a one-off blip for you.

As others have said, bending used to trigger an attack of AF for me. Now I'm in it constantly my rate is usually always under 100.

Let us know how you get on please.

~So sorry to read this Jedi - sounds combination of vax + bending over enough to send HR haywire & pleased meds settled HR within 5.30 hour time frame.

I would really like to know why we can no longer bend over for a time (love gardening) & find that HR is hiked?? Still haven't found answers nor clues how to prevent this from happening which ultimately sends us into a/fib zone when HR high for too long?

Stay well Jedi :)

Drat, glad its settled now though. Disappointing but hopefully a short lived blip.

Sorry to hear you've had more AF drama. Each of the 3 Pfizer vaccines I had set off my heart, especially the last one - more ectopics than AF I think though. My last booster was Novavax (not sure if you have that available in the UK) and I wouldn't have even known I had an injection.

Take care and keep well.

Did that occur after eating? If so the trigger could be a combination of busy, full stomach & bend.

No I hadn't eaten since lunchtime

that's a bummer after so long. Let's hope it's off again for at least as long. But what's the neat little gizmo please? Looks like a BP reading there. Stay balanced and well.

If you look at the photo, the device has "pulse oximeter" printed on it.

Very useful device. Gives oxygen saturation in the blood (photo shows 90%, quite low), the numerical pulse rate as it changes, plus a visual waveform of the pulse (photo shows an irregular heart rhythm). as it changes. All useful information quickly obtained.

Available at most chemists and online at varying prices, but very affordable, and an essential part of monitoring your own health. The device shown unusually uses 3 colours in its display, most have only a single colour.

Most seem to be made in China, but to avoid quality control problems, I bought a German made device.

Hope that helps,

bob.

thanks. I thought it was an oximeter but mine doesn't look quite like that. Plus the 2 gigs could easily have been a BP measure.

I want one, what do I search online for

Pulse oximeter. But online is a minefield of confusing mostly Chinese made devices of unknown quality control. I avoided those problems by choosing a German made device from my local chemist. It's a Geratherm single colour model. It cost me £60 at the start of Covid days when such devices were in greater demand and shorter supply, but I notice it's now £34 + £4 postage = £38 on Amazon.

But there's other multicoloured models which seem attractive, plus others that connect via Bluetooth to an App on your phone. As I said it's a confusing marketplace. I suggest you look first in your local chemist, Boots or other. Just make sure it's got a large waveform display, as this gives a quick easy visual image of any pulse/heart Arrhythmias.

Good luck. bob.

Just when you think you got it tamed - bang. Bending was a trigger for me. So sorry to hear that Jedi, you were doing so well.

Stay well and take it easy (if the kids let you) for a day or two. 😘
