Post ablation 2 weeks

Ablation 2 weeks ago at NNUH and by the app FibriCheck I have monitored AF since. Heart rate up to 119 just sitting still and pre ablation was 65-75. My GP took an ECG today and agreed I’m in AF but will refer me back to the hospital as my follow up appointment isn't booked until January. They said I was missing a P Wave. Has anyone else had this experience? I’m currently taking Amiodarone and edoxaban feeling fatigued and having palpitations. The migraines have eased off now, thank heaven but can get breathless after climbing the stairs.

AF has no p wave which is how one can know you are in AF. Try ringing the arrhythmia nurse where you had the ablation as it sounds like a cardioversion is a good idea.

Hopefully you have read the recovery fact sheet so know what to expect.

Thank you Bob, yes I found the fact sheets very helpful, it’s a shame the hospitals’ don’t have such a comprehensive post procedure leaflet to hand out. I have had 2 cardio versions before the ablation the 1st lasted 48 hours the 2nd 12 hours. As I have been diagnosed with persistent AF now for over a year and before then undiagnosed palpitations for most of my adult life I tend to think my heart isn’t going to revert into Sinus again and I’ll be on the meds now forever, perhaps I’m too pessimistic. I had hoped that I would have been able to go back on anti inflammatory meds for my osteoarthritis but they don’t interact with the heart meds.

Could I suggest that you ring the arrhythmia nurses at the NNUH, I've always found their response to be excellent. Like you, I was disappointed with the lack of information from the NNUH but thankfully the fact sheets on this site made up for it.

I think when I go to my next appointment I’ll take the post ablation fact sheet with me and show them. It would be helpful for anyone having the procedure. I will leave a message for the Arrhythmia nurses they are very efficient and they normally ring back the same day.

just out of interest who did your Ablation at Nnuh? I had mine done there just over 2 weeks ago.

Dr Till, and like yourself he didn’t come to tell me about the op. I was in for 4 hours so would be interesting to of heard why it took that long.

hi I had Dr Raine EP do my Ablation at NNUH. He came and talked to me prior to procedure and also gave me an update in person after it had finished plus I was given information sheets to take home and detailed discharge information. I cannot fault his work ethic. I have a follow up chat in 3 months. I have contacted the Arrthmia Specialist nurses a couple of times and they have been great. I wish you well with your recovery.

Mine was also with Dr Till, just 8 days ago. The only time that I saw him was a brief visit to ask me to sign a consent form. I do have detailed discharge notes but would love to know if it was cryo or radio ablation.

I was told by Dr Till that mine would be cyroablation and I’ve found out since that this method can cause more of the migraine aura, of which I suffered for 10 days. The physicians report I was given is full of abbreviations but none that I understand.

I've been on Amiodarone now for about 5 weeks as well as Nebivolol and Rixoroxaban for about 5 months, I'm due for my first cardioversion in about 10 days. The amiodarone is meant to promote a return to NSR, no effect on me so far with my heart rate still at 120-130. Skin light sensivity is definitely increased so be careful in the sun. I'm an asthmatic as well and beta blockers are having an adverse effect on that condition. The main side effect I am having is a sore stomach which seems to have started at the same time as the Amiodarone and appears as a common side effect in the patients leaflets.

yes I’ve had the amiodarone now for 4/5 months hoping that with the ablation it would revert back into sinus. I spent most of the summer covered up against the sun but not much other side effects but the doc is keeping an eye on liver and kidney function. Fingers crossed your cardio version is successful.
