Hi everyone. I hope you are all keeping well. Does anyone here take Merbeverine/Colofac for IBS? I started taking it yesterday and noticed a rise in my heart rate. Nothing dangerously high but high for me. The side effects leaflet doesnt suggest any change. Can anyone let me know their experience please?

Yes, I have definitely noticed a connection between taking Colofac and experiencing a higher than usual heart rate. This has happened to me several times.

Have you found an alternative for your IBS?

No, sadly not! In fact, I find that other treatments, such as Buscopan, have a similar side effect. And you? Any recommendations?

I haven't taken it for a good while as it did absolutely nothing for me nor cause side effects (mind you my "IBS" is related to diverticular issues so maybe that's why it didn't work). Are you finding it helps your stomach pains?

Yes it helps lots with thd cramping. Bloating and flatulence.

I find it makes my heartbeat more noticeable as a thudthudthud which isn’t normal for me. I assumed it was because my ibs is connected with stress and if the stress is prevented from causing diarrhoea it finds another outlet! But maybe not. I also have diverticular issues and it doesn’t work well for that.
