Stress and AFIB

Just wondering how many have been triggered from stress.

We are in the middle of a hurricane, and of course it came at night lol. It's not my first hurricane or major storm, but still enough to raise the ol HR for sure...not enough to trigger an episode, but enough to see the ol ticker ramp up a tad.

Can't believe we still have power...one of the very fortunate few...*wait for it* lol.

Yes stress does trigger AF for me. Also when I get AF I have a panic attack which just adds to my problems but there is nothing I can do about it.

Haven't had afib but a lot more palpitations.

Oh there were palpitations last nigh i'll tell ya! What a storm...we were soooo fortunate that we didn't lose power and suffered no damage or injury. We were one of the lucky few that didn't loose power. Most of the east coast here is out, and will be for some time.

I'm in central florida. Ian is coming. Going to be terrible. I'm very afraid. God help us.

If they tell you to evacuate, then evacuate. Check your insurance, pack up and head out while you can. Regrets while your house falls down around you is not a great option. Luckily we got through Fiona yesterday without much drama, and I didn't go into AFIB, but we were prepared. Stay safe.

I’ve been through one hurricane since having afib and the stress did trigger an afib episode. Stay safe!

Then..you know...it will do that. Outwardly I was cool as the all-weather-night-fighter I was trained to be...inside my heart was thumping...thumpity thumpity thump 😜

You hear on this forum a lot about Vagal manoeuvres to help ease afib, but my Afib is definitely triggered by stress. It doesn’t even have to be crazy stress, just something perhaps out of the normal that gets me over thinking. In your situation, I would certainly be having extra afibbepisodes ! I hope you keep your electricity as it is at least a little easier to cope when you can see what’s going on and you can have a coffee ( de-caff ! ) break. Best of luck beach_bum.

stress certainly seemed to be the initial trigger for my Afib. I was in a highly stressful job but had to take leave to have a kidney removed. The Afib developed as I started to recover from the surgery and realised Ihad to go back to work. I only lasted another 2 years at work after that and had to take early retirement.

Yes, my cardioversion lasted for two months until my first stressful event (a critical football match) and then I was back in AF.

Avoid if possible

Good luck

Mine definitely gets triggered by stress. I live in Ohio, and a winter storm last year snowed me in with a 3-ft. drift over my driveway, that sent me into a-fib! I worried about a lame deer I'd been feeding, how I'd get to the birdfeeders to fill, etc. And of course how'd anyone come to save me if anything happened as I live alone.

Thank you Snowgirl. I am in CA and somewhat new to this site. Diagnosed with AF in July. What a journey and live alone too at 64 with two dogs. Trying to adjust to new meds, maintain my independence and approaching Cardioversion in October. You have given me hope and I don’t feel alone anymore too with everyone’s amazing and supportive posts. Thank you! ❤️

tuckerheart I am 65 and on my own, boy is it scary if afib kicks off in the night which is just what mine seems to do. My heart rate can go up to 120 bpm and sometimes higher, my episodes can also last for 36 to 48 hours before reverting to NSR. Stress definitely triggers mine

stress triggers me for sure. We had a short drive on our local expressway and it was under construction and very bumpy where they would start and stop the new layer of asphalt. I hit 1 hard uneven layer across the whole width and right after that the tire presssure alert came on. We drove over to where they check the tire pressure and just waiting in the car in the sun I slipped into AFib. Ugh!
