Well here I am smart new pacemaker in and now going next week for the ablation. Have been fine in the six weeks between the two procedures but now it is only a week to the final ablation am feeling nervous. Would anyone who has had this procedure give me an idea about how they are feeling now and has it improved their QOL because it is a final resort. 😕

Pace & Ablate 2nd part
I know that CDreamer felt so well with her pacemaker that she decided not to go for the ablation.
Further to Jean’s comment - 4 years on and hardly any AF - only when I had chest infections on 3 occasions.
I talked to my EP who said it was my decision but that some of their patients had found that the PM alone had helped significantly to not go ahead with the AV node ablation, so I cancelled. It was the right decision for me as I thought I could always change my mind and have it at a later date, should the pacemaker not work on it’s own.
I know things have gotten significantly more troublesome in the NHS but maybe talk to your cardiologist? There is a saying where I came from “If in doubt - do ‘nowt”. It’s never failed to work for me.
I had the procedure in July quality of life much better wish I had it sooner
Interested to read any replies. Im going in for pacemaker on monday ( very nervous) then ablation 6 weeks later.
Had the ablation part done three years ago. Quality of life is wonderful. I too wish I had known it was an option sooner. I trust the pacemaker, I could never trust my unreliable heart.
I had my AV Node ablation four months ago, with my pacemaker fitted about two and a half months before that. The pacemaker didn't make any difference to my AF but since the ablation I feel that I have my life back. It is truly wonderful. I am still feeling a bit tired in the afternoons, but I think that is to be expected as my heart hasn't been working properly for about two years. Just take it easy and listen to your body, after all it is a major procedure. Just remember it isn't a cure and it does feel rather strange when your heart tries to go into AF but the pacemaker controls it and it resumes a normal heartbeat. It was the best thing I ever did. Good luck, you will be absolutely fine. Gloria
Hello, I had my Pacemaker in June 21 after six years of AF , permanent for the most part. I had been treated with cardioversions, three ablations and drugs with no lasting effect. I felt no better with the Pacemaker and my AV node ablation was cancelled a few times, finally got it six months later. I can’t tell you the difference it made I felt like a new person immediately. I came back from the hospital and literally ran up the stairs without thinking ! I previously struggled, pausing for breath. Must admit lately I’ve been a little frustrated as I want to do more and don’t know whether my lack of fitness is down to age, 72 or the fact I’m so out of shape. I would have the same procedure again in the proverbial heartbeat 😆. Good luck hope it works as well for you x
I am having pace maker on Wednesday & feeling very nervous. All your comments have helped enormously Thank you
