post ablation swimming in the sea.

hi all. Just a quicky. Post ablation, what do you guys think about getting back in the sea? I shant be doing much for a week or so but having started cold water swimming I dont want to stop. Im guessing once the wound in the groin had healed properly there shouldn't be a problem . I dont really swim but do exercises to help with my fitness. My knees are shot from years of athletics and team sports but I know how important it is to keep moving. I do yoga as well but I'm not sure how long to wait until I resume these activities. As for going in the sea my main concern is getting an infection. Please dont suggest going to swimming pools, I do not like the places and just get in people's way who do swim! But I live by the sea , it's free and any stress just dissolves away. So what do you think?

I would ask the nurse/doc at the RSCH when they are preparing you for your ablation what the timescale should be. You certainly wouldn't want to risk infection.

I will do that Jalia. Just thought I would ask you guys too. Many thanks.

Bearing in mind your previous references to hospitals in Sussex and the recent news coverage about what’s been turning up along the south coast beaches this summer, I think I’d give the sea a miss. Infection is bad enough, but diphtheria would be a lot worse 😱

Oh given the current situation with water companies pumping raw sewerage into our sea, I'd steer clear of the beach and running the risk of infection. Does your local swimming pool offer off peak swims for older people? They'll be mobbed with little people at the moment because of the school holidays but maybe you could go early morning/late afternoon.

That is a good comment. Thank you.

As others mentioned, I personally wouldn't go in the sea around here for the same reasons at the moment but also, I know the cold water has set off my AF in the past when I've gone in too quick so now it's very s l o w l y.

Apparently White Pointers can detect Ablation procedures and are not interested.

HiDon't Adalaide2020

Where lifting is a no no in my case for 6 weeks after an operation not for heart. Sea swimming was banned as well.

I guess it is to do with the currents and the strengthening of the exercises.

Do them on dry land without the currents.

Where do you live? Obviously you need to check water quality. I’m a swimmer, loved swimming since a kid. Yes you do need advice from your consultant, it’s a very strenuous exercise, good all round fitness. 💗🙏🏼

Thank you for your message. I dont swim just exercise. I live in the south. I can see the IOW from where I am in Gosport.

No none of that. I dont put my head in even. Just move my arms and legs. Sculling I think it's called. If it's too choppy I dont bother.

I was thinking if water quality not great, suit and equipment puts a barrier up. You can use Aqueous cream for barrier, I used that in local pool to repel Chlorine

Swimming may put pressure on heart, you do need to seek advice from consultant, there may be a 3-6 month wait, this is what I would tell my therapy patients

I’d go careful in the uk waters to be honest. UK Coastlines Iv visited don’t look inviting at all and Iv been all over the country.!!I’ll save my swimming for a nice clear foreign sea.👍
