What magnesium tablets are best citrate or glycanate. I used to take some that had a brown label on but can’t remember the make now. I think it was the citrate. Thanks

One of Dr Sanjay Gupta’s videos covers this in some detail…..

I understand Taurate is recommended for heart rhythm and it doesn't have a laxative effect.

The important thing is to make sure you buy a quality supplement as there is a lot of dodgy stuff out there, Amazon for instance posts a warning that it cannot vouch for the supplements it has on its site, I bought some via their site and they were obviously fake, so do the research.

Good luck

I'm trying Magnesium Orotate. It has many positive comments from doctors and nutritionists. Absorbs quickly in the bloodstream.

York Cardiologist recommends high potency magnesium taurate if I recall. I take these twice a day. As someone has said, check the quality I go for reliable brands such as Biocare

Yes I will. Last time I took them my doctor told me to only take half the dose.

Can’t remember why. Will have to double check.

To my knowledge, there is a paucity of "credible" studies comparing the relative absorption of different salt forms of magnesium from the gut. However, in theory (with one outlier) it should not matter if the Mg is taken as the taurate, citrate, glycinate, oxide, hydroxide, et.al., as the extreme acidity of the stomach fluids (pH 1-2 from HCl) would convert all to MgCl2. The outlier is magnesium oxalate, which because of its extreme insolubility will pass unchanged through the stomach/gut, thus food rich in oxalates may interfere with Mg absorption. Also of note, some studies have shown that excess Calcium intake will inhibit absorption of Mg.
